Job Responsibilities

Plans and provides a comprehensive visual arts program for students with disabilities in accordance with best practices and teaching models approved by the SC School for the Deaf and Blind. Teach assigned classes of students with sensory disabilities in the visual arts component of the Fine Arts Program.  Promote the after-school fine arts program at SCSDB by teaching Enrichment classes three days a week and working directly with the residential life staff and Fine Arts Coordinator in planning student art activities, projects, and events. Assist the Fine Arts Coordinator in student productions, field trips, and performances.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's Degree and SC Teacher Licensure in Advanced Fine Arts or Art.  Requires 3 to 5 years of experience working with the special needs population in a structured and/or educational setting. Must have considerable knowledge of the visual art content and curriculum.  Needs to have considerable knowledge of teaching methods and assessments used with special needs students. And must also be able to determine and develop the appropriate and most effective methods for teaching visual art using the SC State Standards for Visual and Performing Arts to students with disabilities in a classroom setting. This position may require communication modalities dependent upon employment placement.
