The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a Full-time Permanent- Warehouse Operator 4 at MCCCW, located in Belfair, WA.

AGENCY PROFILE:
The Department of Corrections, as a partner in the criminal justice system, enhances public safety, administers criminal sanctions and programs in accordance with the law, and provides leadership for the future of corrections in Washington State. The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Community Corrections Division, Administrative Services Division, and Health Services. The Department employs over 7,600 staff and has a biennial budget of approximately $1.6 billion.
 
MISSION CREEK CORRECTIONS CENTER FOR WOMEN is a minimum-custody facility for adult women. MCCCW's focus is to prepare female offenders for their transition back into our communities. To do this, DOC provides opportunity for pre-screened offenders to work on supervised work crews which include sustainable projects, fish hatchery projects, salmon habitat preservation, and other community and park maintenance.  The offenders learn to develop good work ethics, expand their work skills and abilities, and provide a service to the community. In addition the facility provides other programs to enhance successful reentry. 
 
The facility is located Tahuya State Forest outside Belfair, Washington about 30 minutes south of Bremerton. Some staff choose to live close by; others commute from surrounding areas of Bremerton, Gig Harbor, or Tacoma. Close to the Olympic Mountains, Hood Canal, and Case Inlet, the area affords opportunity for many kinds of outdoor activities and water sports. For more information on the area, go to http://www.explorehoodcanal.com

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and Training of Offenders
  • Observe/supervise offenders operating and maintaining equipment/machinery.
  • Document and provided feedback on offender job performance and behavior.
  • Maintain security and discipline over offender workers.
  • Account for offender workers.
  • Execute and maintain tool control processes.
  • Maintain key control.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping for offenders.
  • Warehouse Management
  • Responsible for the efficient management of the facility warehouse to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintains an ordering and delivery schedule for the facility. Maintains an electronic catalog accessible by facility staff.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work environment free of hazards.
  • Maintain good safety practices.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate offender workers according to Department policies and provided training (CORE, PREA, In-Service).
  • Supervise offender crews. Escort/transport crews to complete work necessary for facility operations.
  • Provide excellent customer service, being responsive, accurate, timely and respectful to customers, at all times.
  • Inventory Management
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the inventory tracking system (Consumable Inventory Systems-CIS).
  • Complete annual consumable and/or fixed asset inventory.
  • Tag a new acquired assets and assist in disposal/surplus process as needed.
  • Staff Development and Supervision
  • Supervise warehouse staff by monitoring their work to ensure tasks are accomplished in a safe manner.
  • Mentor staff when necessary and provide growth opportunities when available.
  • Help employees to succeed by modeling accountability; be fair, reasonable and consistent. 
  • Maintain knowledge of the CBA and Department Policy and reporting staff misconduct to Local Business Advisor.
  • Train staff in assigned work activities, core local and job specific competencies.
  • Other
  • Respond to security measures of the institution of and an ongoing responsibility to report security violations of the institution.
  • Collaboration with Correctional Industries to ensure order keying and delivery of offender store.
  • Foster positive, ethical and professional workplace relationships.
  • Build positive relationships with your counterparts at other facilities to ensure you are using consistent best practices.
  • Participate in active communication ensuring timely information sharing with customers including custody staff on possible security issues.
  • Research and gather documents for response to public disclosure request as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Two years of progressive clerical or technical experience in a commissary and/or warehousing operation.
  • Physical ability to do the required work of the position.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Basic computer experience and Microsoft Office literacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience training others.
  • Four years progressive clerical or technical experience in a commissary and/or warehousing operation, including one year of supervisory or lead worker responsibility.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
  • Intermediate computer experience and Microsoft Office literacy.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
