Job Description

Under the supervision of the Equalization Director, maintains the parcel/land base layers of the county's Geographic Information System. Edits digital maps and creates property descriptions and records used in the preparation of assessment and tax rolls. Assists representatives of other governmental units, the general public and others in identifying property boundaries and interpreting property descriptions and maps.

This is a full-time, benefited position working at the Fillmore Complex in West Olive, MI. 

Required Education, Training and Experience

Associate's degree or certificate in Geographic Information Systems, engineering technology, CAD/CAE, cartography or related field, and two (2) years experience in ESRI-based software, and assessment administration, property description preparation and/or cartography. Bachelor's degree in GIS or related field strongly preferred.

Additional Requirements and Information

The qualified candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Thorough working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database management and ESRIbased GIS software applications and the interpretation of digital land base data.
  • Working knowledge of the fundamental principles and practices of land surveying; legal requirements of land surveying work.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the principles and practices, terminology, and techniques used in all levels of cadastral mapping, including real estate and property laws, title policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of current CAD drafting techniques and principles and multiple CAD platforms; engineering/survey mathematics as applied to mapping and drafting, including terminology, symbols, and principles used in cadastral mapping.
  • Working knowledge of property descriptions, deeds, and survey data pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of assessment records.
  • Knowledge of use and application of parcel maps, subdivision maps and survey maps.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with property owners, real estate professionals, attorneys, officers of the court, local government employees, lien holders, tax protesters, and members of the general public from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and with widely divergent communications skills.
