Summary of Position: The Instructional Liaison provides occupational and technical expertise to students during their classroom and/or clinical experience. The Instructional Liaison-Surgical Technology provides students at all stages of the program with clinical instruction and supervision in the operating suite.  This is a part time (up to 20 hours/week school year position), variable hour opportunity with openings at sites in the La Crosse-metro area.  Opportunity for a variety of dates and times, Monday-Friday.  No nights or weekends. Non-benefit eligible position.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions:

  • Provide occupational and technical knowledge to support learning
  • Assign students to cases and monitor performance, intervening with student or staff as necessary.
  • Work with students to refine communication skills, instrument passing skills, ability to maintain aseptic technique, etc., so that they meet clinical standards.Provide immediate, specific feedback to students when not in complianceProvide ongoing feedback to Clinical Coordinator regarding students' progress.
  • Ensure students are following established policies and procedures for both Western and clinical site.File incident reports and contribute to Student Success Plans, as necessary.
  • Build and nurture relationships with surgeons, charge nurses, first assistants, surgical technologist, and other professionals to maintain a strong, mutually beneficial working relationship with Western.

Qualifications


Professional Credentials:

  • NCCA Credential in Surgical Technology or credential-eligible and able to complete by 9/1/18.
 
Educational and Occupational Experience:
  • Technical Diploma in Surgical Technology and 4.5 years (9,000 hours) verifiable occupational experience as surgical technologies, or
  • Associate's degree in Surgical Technology and 3.5 years (7,000 hours) verifiable occupational experience as surgical technologist, or
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years (4,000) hours verifiable occupational experience as surgical technologist.
