The Business and Economic Development Team Manager performs highly advanced (senior-level) managerial work in assigning and overseeing the work of members of the team.  Coordinates work of team to produce budget analyses and recommendations that effectively support legislative deliberations. 

This position reports to the supervising Assistant Director and works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, assign, coordinate, and supervise activities of team members.
  • Effectively oversee the establishment and presentation of goals, objectives, work schedules, priorities, and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of audiences including, but not limited to LBB staff and management, legislators, legislative staff, agency personnel, and the general public.
  • Make presentations of analyses and recommendations to agencies, legislators and their staff, and others.
  • Identify areas of needed change and make recommendations to improve operations.
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to effectively support legislative deliberations and agency success.
  • Actively facilitate professional development of team members.
  • Mentor, provide feedback, and evaluate team members to encourage growth and attainment of performance and professional goals.
  • Promote sound qualitative and quantitative analysis and make effective recommendations.
  • Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of all major team issues and alternatives under consideration.
  • Communicate effectively by adequately simplifying and translating complex data and providing high level summaries and options for a variety of audiences.Use language appropriate for audience.
  • Evaluate suggestions for work/process improvements and implement or recommend to directors, as appropriate.
  • Develop staff written and oral presentation skills to assure logical and coherent flow of ideas.Encourage and facilitate professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to or complete additional assignments that meet agency or legislative needs.

Experience and Education

  • Significant experience in fiscal and policy analyses.
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful project management.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major or minor related to the work of the LBB, including but not limited to:Economics, Public Administration, Government, Political Science, and Public Affairs.
  • A graduate degree is preferred, but not required.
