Position Purpose

To provide academic support services to 90 TRiO SSS students.  This position is responsible to provide academic advising, transfer advising, financial aid advising, scholarship information, financial literacy, and other academic advising services.  Organize and provide cultural and educational activities/events for TRiO SSS students as per grant requirements.  Provide both community and LSC referrals as appropriate to TRiO SSS students to include tutoring services.  Be an advocate for TRiO SSS students when necessary to ensure academic success.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Knowledge of TRiO/Student Support Services Grant objectives and history of program.
  • Experience working with first generation/low income students, students with disabilities, culturally and racially diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies and processes.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must have strong advocacy and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to think outside the box.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with TRiO SSS students, TRiO SSS Staff, LSC Staff, faculty, administration, community members and non-LSC TRiO staff.
  • Prefer a TRiO alumni or have similar experience as TRiO SSS students while attending college.

MAPE (Minnesota Association of Professional Employees) collective bargaining contract, with MnSCu supplement. This is an unclassified position.

1. Insurances: Health, Life, Dental, additional life, LTD and flex plan are available. Full employer contribution with 75% and above FTE.

2. Retirement: Defined contribution Plan (401)(a). After three years, there is a supplemental retirement plan of $1600 annually, that is matched.

3. Vacation - Start with 4 hours per pay period and increases with time.
Former public employees may get service credit and start with a higher accrual rate.

4. Sick Leave - 4 hours per pay period.

5. Tuition Waiver of 20 credits for employee or dependants, after three years of MnSCu service.
