Fossil Trace Golf Club is one of Denver's premier public golf courses, nestled adjacent to the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front Range and only 15 minutes from downtown Denver. In its short history, the golf course has enjoyed tremendous success and is considered one of the finest golf courses and golf experiences available in Denver and all of Colorado.

We are currently recruiting for qualified applicants for Seasonal Maintenance Worker - Golf Course. 

This position performs all routine golf course maintenance duties as well as trouble-shoots, details and critically reviews golf course presentation (9-18 holes/day). Provides support to all aspects of golf course maintenance operations. This includes but is not limited to grounds maintenance, facility construction, landscape construction, janitorial support, equipment operation and special event support.
 
This position requires shifts Monday - Friday including early mornings and every other weekend.


 

JOB SUMMARY

Studies golf course presentation on a daily basis to ensure that bunkers are raked, tee markers are set, cups are properly cut, etc.

Operates maintenance equipment to maintain golf course landscaping. Equipment used includes mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerifiers and various hand tools and implements.

Mows golf course greens daily covering up to four miles while pushing mower.

Mows, edges, aerates and fertilizes greens and fairways. Applies fertilizers as necessary. Documents products applied and rates of application.

Plants and maintains trees, shrubs, perennial beds, flower beds and native plants.

Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs irrigation system.

Landscape Construction - soil preparation, fine grading, sod/seed installation, shrubs, perennial and flower bed installation.

Responsible for repair and maintenance of restrooms, shelters, fences and concrete work. 

Responsible for trash collection and removal on course, cart paths, drainage systems and open space.


Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 16 years of age by date of hire. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) preferred. Six months experience in turf/parks maintenance preferred. Experience in landscape and construction highly desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Must be able to read, comprehend and interpret City of Golden policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, citizens and others verbally and in writing.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to complete time sheets.
 
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to make independent decisions.
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to learn basic horticultural skills to include planting and irrigation; proficient use of general grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to learn to perform semi-skilled course maintenance, construction, and repair work. Ability to learn methods and safety practices utilized in course maintenance operations. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. The ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
 
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Janitorial equipment and chemicals, mechanical hand tools, agricultural hand tools, push lawn mowers, string trimmers, edger's, riding mowers, electrical power tools, walking mowers, application sprayers. 
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to push/pull mowers and hoses, dig; rake; hammer; saw; drill; shovel. Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, climbing and bending. Must have ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance as needed. Ability to hear telephone conversations and audible signals from equipment, such as the two-way radio system. Must be able to respond to inquiries in person and by telephone. Ability to see up close, peripherally, and at a distance to perform the requirements of the job. 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
 
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Working conditions are primarily outside on golf course and in native foothills setting. Use of personal protective equipment as required.
