Description


The Cary SK8 Park is seeking energetic, responsible, self-motivated and independent individuals to serve as Center Aides. 

This position entails considerable public contact in a fast-paced dynamic environment. The Center Aide III interacts with customers, students and instructors of all ages, providing information about programs, registering students for classes and ringing up sales in our Pro Shop. You will use your customer service and great communication skills to answer questions, deal firmly but tactfully with the public, and explain our policies. The Center Aide
also performs general clerical duties as well as basic facility upkeep to keep
our SK8 Park in tip-top shape.

Typical Tasks

     
Collects membership fees and entry fees, and performs retail sales.

May orient and train part-time staff.

Notifies supervisors of needed supplies.

Assists with setup and clean up of special events.

Performs light housekeeping as needed.

Takes program participation counts.

Serves as receptionist, answers telephone, receives citizen inquiries and requests for services,  provides department information and materials to citizens, or refers to appropriate person.

Operates standard office machines, including copy machine and computer;

Computer work may be extensive

Registers the public for classes

Enforces Town of Cary policies

Opens or/or closes and secures Center daily

Follows up with supervisor with oral and written reports

Prepares mailings as needed

Handles special projects

Communicates with instructors as needed regarding status of their classes;

Assists instructors to ensure their positive interaction with facility and staff. 
Answers questions or refer to proper person; supply with attendance sheets.

Files registration forms.

Uses Point of Sale as a sales register, cash balance and tracking system.

Contacts students to provide information about class updates, changes or cancellations.

Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Knowledge of skateboarding,  in-line skating, and BMX;
 
General knowledge of computers and related software;

General knowledge of standard office practices and procedures;

Ability to complete assignments accurately and prior to the established deadline;

Skill in the operation of common office equipment;

General knowledge of cash collection procedures;

Good customer services skills:  meeting and communicating with the public in an effective, firm but tactful manner.

Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others;

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;

Ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the park, division and department;

Ability to maintain filing systems;

Must be available to work a varied schedule to include weekdays, evenings, and/or weekends.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.  Requires a high school graduation or equivalent;

Preference given to applicants with, or pursuing a bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Parks and Recreation Management, or related fields;

General clerical and public contact experience required; 

Some supervisory experience in recreational activities preferred;  

Some experience in retail sales or cash handling preferred;

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
