Basic Functions

Responsible for preventative maintenance repair, running maintenance repair and heavy maintenance repair on light rail vehicles.  Duties include troubleshooting, testing and repairing of complex light rail systems, sub-systems and circuits to line replaceable unit level up to and including diagnosing to board replacement level.  Assists the LRV Maintenance Supervisors and Project Management Team on failure analysis and fault isolation to resolve complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical issues with the light rail vehicles systems, sub-systems with the use of portable test equipment, and laptop diagnostic and test Software application.  Works closely with the METRO Project Management Team during testing, commissioning and acceptance of new METRO Light Rail Vehicles.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

Successfully complete the LRV Maintenance Training courses in light rail vehicle systems and sub-systems.

Complete 65% of the PQS within 1 year from date of hire.

Complete 100% of the PQS within 2 years from date of hire.

Work with other Rail Operation sections as necessary to facilitate achieving no less than a 96% on time performance.

Inspect, diagnose, test and repair rail vehicle systems and equipment.

Perform complex, detailed line replaceable unit level diagnostics and repairs to vehicle systems and sub-systems.

Assist in establishing procedures used for diagnosing, testing and repairing complex electronic equipment down to the component level.

Utilize special tools and test equipment to perform electronic and electrical circuitry repairs.

Work closely with management, supervisory staff, vendors and contractors in determining fleet defects.

Prepare and enter appropriate testing and diagnostic data for entry into a maintenance management system.

Document warranty data according to METRO policies and procedures.
Comply with all safety, operating and maintenance procedures.

Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment to complete necessary repairs in a timely manner.

May serve as "Lead" Technician or fill in Supervisor in the absence of the LRV Maintenance Supervisor.

Operator METRORail non-revenue vehicles to include rail car mover, hi-rail equipment and re-railing equipment.

Work with management, staff and contractors to assure special tools and test equipment is on hand to support revenue operations.

Provide necessary support for revenue and future start-up operations.
Assist with the development of shop test procedures.

Assist management, vendors and contractors with vehicle testing and acceptance programs.

Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is required.  Associates degree in electrical/electronic technology is desired
 

Four (4) years of increasingly responsible electrical/electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and HVAC systems inspections and repair experience desired.  Military technical experience is  preferred.  LRT experience is preferred. Successful completion of level T2 LRV Technician required
 

A valid TDL is required for the job and must meet METRO's motor vehicle records requirements. Must be able to pass a Yard Safety Orientation Course (provided by METRO).  Must successfully pass technical competency test prior to an interview.  Excellent (oral and written) communication skills are essential.  Ability to communicate well with management, consultants and engineers to resolve vehicle maintenance issues.  Perform technician level diagnosis and repair of complex electrical and electronic equipment.  Read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams.  Utilize bench and portable

test equipment for diagnosing, testing and repairing board level components.  Utilize vendors software applications required for repairing electronic equipment.
