Job Description

Purpose of Position:
Why does the job exist?
Position will conduct reviews of project proposals and plans, cultural resource survey, archeological testing and excavation reports, ethnographic reports and environmental documents for compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and State statue. Position will review assess the technical sufficiency of consultation reports and provides comments on the federal and state agency's determinations of historic property eligibility and project effects.
 
How does it get done?
Conduct compliance reviews in accordance with applicable historic preservation laws, regulations, agreement documents and Secretary of the Interior's Standards. Provide historic preservation documentation and reports within 30 days or alternate time-frames established by agreement documents.

The Ideal Candidate
  • At least twelve (12) months experience with the archeological resources of New Mexico
  • Experience working with the Federal Section 106 and/or State Compliance review process
This position is a Pay Band 65.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Archeology or Anthropology and two (2) years of experience in archeology survey, excavation, analysis and/or reporting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
 
Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an office setting with extensive personal computer and telephone use. Occasional in-state travel to meetings and site visits can occur at least once a month but may be more frequent at times.
