Job Description

Purpose of Position:
Why does the job exist?
This position will lead and execute the necessary programs and activities required to meet Economic Development Division's (EDD) legislatively mandated science and technology initiatives. The position is intended to facilitate, enable and encourage start-up, retention, relocation, development and growth of technology-based industries leading to job creation across the state. The position will be the focal point for leveraging the State's technological strength, determining the State's commercial advantage and collaborating to secure a vibrant technology based industry network. 
 
How does it get done?
Oversee and administer:

  • The Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) Defense Industry Adjustment federal grant (Phase II)
  • Programs such as the Innovation Voucher and SBIR Matching grants
  • Activities of the Technology Research Collaborative 
Develop:
  • A five (5) year state technology
  • The agency's publications
Who are the customers?
  • Business owners/Organizations
  • Citizens of the State of New Mexico
  • Legislators
The Ideal Candidate:
 Experience in:
  • Technology transfer or commercialization programs
  • Technology research processes
  • Venture capital, angel investment, technology tax credits or incentive programs which facilitate the growth of high-tech industry sectors
This position is a Pay Band 80.

Economic Development Program Coordinator

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Economics, Economic Development, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Historic Preservation, Communications/Journalism, Community Development, Urban Design, Urban / Regional Planning, or any related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (S.T.E.M.) degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in economic or community development programs. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
 
Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer and telephone usage. Sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping to file, and occasionally lifting a minimum of 25 pounds. Occasionally work extra hours in the evenings, on weekends and holidays. Will attend science and technology events in Santa Fe and surrounding areas and may present on science and technology/economic development topics at same events and to the legislature.
