Description

This position involves performing semi-skilled and skilled structural, electrical, plumbing and carpentry work in the construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of county buildings and structures. 

Examples of Duties

Determines necessary tools, equipment and materials needed to perform assigned jobs and assembles these items at the job site.
 
Performs minor electrical work to maintain or repair wiring and fixtures in existing buildings.
 
Installs or replaces wiring components in the construction or alteration of county buildings.
 
Repairs leaks in plumbing fixtures and sewer lines.
 
Replaces or installs new PVC pipe, sinks, toilets, water heaters, water coolers, and counter tops in the alteration or construction of county buildings.
 
Performs structural construction work to include building forms and pouring concrete, constructing walls, hanging drywall and doors, installing insulation and performing other building trades work.
 
Performs interior and exterior painting.
 
Installs cabinetry and performs related cabinetry work.
 
Reframes office space and upgrades electrical service to renovated office areas.
 
Performs structural maintenance work on all county buildings such as repairing doors, patching roofs and replacing windows.
 
Services HVAC systems in some county buildings which involves washing and replacing condenser coils, changing filters, adding coolant and other tasks.
 
Replaces HVAC system components such as motors, thermostats, compressors, fan switches, fuses and other parts.
 
Replaces light bulbs and ballasts in light fixtures.
Responds to service and emergency calls regarding building maintenance problems.
 
Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a standard high school course or its equivalent, supplemented by technical school course work in the electrical, plumbing or carpentry trades.
 
Five (5) years of experience in building construction and maintenance work providing the incumbent with a working knowledge of all building trades.
 
Possession of a valid Georgia Driver's License.
 
Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, Skill, Abilities/ Supplemental Information

Knowledge of the Southern Uniform Building Codes, County ordinances and regulations that directly relate to assigned duties; Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures in the plumbing, electrical and carpentry trades as they apply to the construction, alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings; Skill in efficiently and safely operating a variety of power tools used in building construction work; Ability to plan, organize and complete work with limited supervision; Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints and shop drawings; Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions; Ability to deal courteously with County officials, County employees and the general public; Knowledge of the County geography.

Annual Leave

Annual Leave (vacation) is earned as follows:

  • 0 months – 5 years: 10 days per year
  • 6 years – 15 years: 15 days per year
  • 16 years – 20 years: 20 days per year
  • 21 years and over: 23 days per year

Sick Leave is earned at the rate of one day per month for a total of 12 days per year.

Employees receive nine paid holidays per year.

Insurance benefits are offered to employees working over 32 hours per week.

New employees are eligible for insurance coverage on the first day of the month following one full month of employment.

Retirement is managed by GEBCorp. Employees are required to contribute a percentage of annual salary for the Defined Benefit Program. Also available is an optional 457b Deferred Compensation Program.
