Please Note: 
This Position is a Night Shift normally scheduled to work 8:00PM-6:30AM.
In addition to the listed salary this position is entitled to an additional $3.00/hr for Night shift work and Assignment pay.

The Opportunity:
WSDOT is seeking a Maintenance Lead Technician, who will be able to hit the ground running and lead an experienced team of highly-dedicated Maintenance Tech professionals.
 
The Maintenance Lead Technician will provide direction and support to safely coordinate work activities. This experienced technician leads by example and has a personal commitment to safety while working actively with the crew to perform required maintenance.
 
This position will be the Full-time lead for our night shift Maintenance team out of our Lake Geneva Location.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Patrol and inspect assigned highway and perform a variety of maintenance tasks to help keep roads usable and safe for the traveling public.
  • Plan, layout, and establish and perform traffic control functions.
  • Operate trucks to 54,000 GVW equipped with snow plow and sanding equipment and other related highway maintenance equipment.
  • Lead, supervise, and train assigned employees in safe and efficient highway maintenance operations.
  • Maintain roadways and drainage systems, clean and maintain tunnels, sweep roadway shoulders.
  • Interact with the traveling public in a professional and positive manner.
  • Design and set up traffic control for road and bridge closures following departmental and MUTCD standards.

 Our Ideal Candidate will have: 
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without endorsement K (airbrakes restriction) is REQUIRED
  • Be able to demonstrate 3 years of experience in highway or roadway maintenance or a related field; preference will be given to applicants whose leadership experience is in highway or roadway maintenance.
  • Ability to serve as the acting supervisor in the supervisor's absence.
  • Experience operating a WSP high band and WSDOT 800 MHz radio.
  • Ability to respond to emergency call outs, work different and/or extended shifts on short notice (days, nights and weekends), and perform standby duty on a rotational basis.
  • Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups utilizing oral, written, and electronic communication methods.
  • Ability to perform hard physical labor such as moving and transporting heavy objects.
  • Ability to traverse rough and steep terrain.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions to perform snow and ice removal functions during winter months. 
  • Have one (1) year experience as a Maintenance Technician 3 or Maintenance Specialist 3; OR at least two (2) years of experience as a Maintenance Technician 2, Bridge; Maintenance Technician 2, or Maintenance Specialist 2; OR equivalent experience in highway maintenance.

Note: 
This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us.
