Description of Duties/Essential Functions

Under the direction of the facility Medical Director, provides medical care and treatment of residents of the Quincy Veterans Home. Conducts physical examinations, ordering and interpreting laboratory tests or other diagnostic procedures.  Makes rounds, evaluating patient progress and checking reports and charts.  Recommends patients for transfer to V.A. facilities or to other hospitals or specialists for specialized treatment.  Writes medical histories and reports.  Prescribes medication and therapy.  Provides medical leadership over nursing and other disciplines in conjunction with the provision of medical services. 

Minimum Requirements

Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine. Requires working knowledge of the basic principles and practices of general medicine and surgery, including the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries.  Requires working knowledge of recent developments in the field of general medicine.  Requires ability to medically treat illness and injury and perform routine medical diagnoses.  Requires ability to evaluate the quality of medical care and treatment, and coordinate medical services with other professional disciplines and supportive personnel.  Requires ability to establish rapport with the residents.  Requires ability to provide technical medical leadership and direction over other medical service delivery personnel, and establish effective working relationships. Requires ability to prepare detailed and accurate medical records and reports.
