Description

This position is responsible for technical support assisting end users with their day-to-day technical duties and issues.  Interns also work on assigned projects.

Examples of Duties

It is essential for all employees to adhere to Northern Wasco County PUD policies, procedures, and workplace behavior expectations.

  • Answer clients' inquiries via Service Desk/phone/e-mail or in-person concerning the use of telecom operating systems, hardware and software, peripheral devices and applications. Support users in the use of wireless access and secure web conferencing.
  • Assist end-users and troubleshoot problems in a timely manner. Create Knowledge Base articles and document known issue resolutions.
  • Configure, install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain enterprise workstations, laptops, tablets, smart phones, multifunction printers and other peripheral devices. Modify and fine tune workstation operating systems to obtain compatibility with peripheral hardware and application software. Connect workstations to the enterprise network. Provide desk side end user training.
  • Processing software and hardware support requests by coordinating user setups, installations and upgrades.
  • Configuration and resetting of network access accounts whenever required.
  • Installation of new hardware and software
  • Connect devices to the LAN and wireless network. Troubleshoots and isolates connectivity issues to the port level to pass on to Network Administrator.
  • Provide customer training on technology devices and software as required.
  • Maintain call tickets using Service Desk System.
  • Write procedures

Typical Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, PC hardware, storage devices and peripherals, Microsoft Office Software. 
  • Working knowledge of basic PC networking
  • Able to perform problem analysis when troubleshooting workstation hardware or software problems, using appropriate diagnostic tools and techniques. 
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve workstation and application problems.
  • Critical thinking
  • Effective communication, both orally and in writing, with a diverse user group with varied needs and levels of expertise in the use of technology.
  • Able to work individually and in a team environment.  Able to multi-task, work under pressure, and manage change and stressful situations effectively.
  • Able to perform software application administration functions and learn a variety of tools.
Preferred Skills
  • MS Access
  • Basic BASH and database Script writing
  • Basic understanding of industry standard security practices and specific knowledge pertaining to desktop and application security.

Supplemental Information

Majority of work day involves inside office work, infrequent outside work. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. The working environment is generally favorable, with no exposure to hazardous conditions caused by noise, dust, or other factors.  Occasional travel for business or into the field may be required.

Physical Requirements

  • Movement throughout NWASCO building. May occasionally need to travel for training or conferences located in a city or town other than assigned work location.
  • Stand or sit at a work station for the majority of each shift.
  • May occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Communicate with others. Typically through the use of speaking and hearing.
  • Use of a computer to enter and screen data.

For jobs that require travel:  Travel to various locations for work, occasionally overnight. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record under NWASCO's policies and procedures or the ability to arrange acceptable transportation for self.
 
All PUD employees are expected to work outside of normal business hours when required during emergency restoration activities and to accomplish other special projects.
