Qualifications

Candidates must have a minimum of a master's degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, Leadership Development, or a related field. Candidates must have prior professional experience in Student Affairs at a four-year college or university and a minimum of 10 years professional experience in higher education. Candidates with proven leadership experience in higher education are desired. Experience in recruiting, retention, student development and leadership are also necessary. Candidates should wish to develop new and unique ways to engage college students and possess a genuine desire to work with students from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

Job Concepts

Job description: The Director of Student Affairs supervises Student Union Life to include, the Student Union and the University Calendar, Camps, Student Activities and Organizations, Student Activities Board, Greek Life and SGA; First Year Experience and Leadership Programs; Student Counseling and Career Services including Job Location and Development; Health Services, Center for Inclusion and Diversity; Student Support Services, and Disability Services. The Director of Student Affairs also supervises clerical staff, student workers and graduate students. The Director of Student Affairs reports directly to the VP of the Student Experience.

The primary role of the Director of Student Affairs is to coordinate the above areas in a way that provides the most responsive services for new and continuing students at Northwestern. The goal of Student Affairs is student development, retention, and recruitment. The Director ensures a broad range of services including health and related support services to assist students to remain in school and be successful. The Director of Student Affairs ensures that NSU programs, organizations, and activities provide leadership development, promote service/civic learning experiences, and promote communities that are inclusive. The Director of Student Affairs fosters the goals of institutional loyalty, respect, integrity, healthy lifestyle, and collaboration. The Director will provide guidance and support for similar efforts for on line and off campus sites.
