Description

Under limited supervision, performs extremely technical and specialized work as related to Brunswick County Water Treatment Plants and associated distribution systems.  Work involves the operation of water treatment plant processes and related equipment.  Work also involves collecting and testing water samples; controlling mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and chemical feed systems associated with the treatment process. Responsible for making flow rate changes, chemical dosing changes, and providing overall high- quality drinking water to Brunswick County.  Responsible for assisting in the preparation of a variety of reports, maintaining records as related to the water treatment process, and answering inquiries/concerns from the public.  Must exercise initiative and independent judgment in completing assignments.  Performs other duties as required.  Reports to the Chief Utility Plant Operator.

Water Treatment  Operator I-$15.74-$20.47
Water Treatment  Operator II-$16.72-$21.74
Water Treatment  Operator III-$17.70-$23.01
Water Treatment  Operator IV-$18.68-$24.29

 

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; 1-5 years' experience in a water/wastewater treatment facility preferred and associate degree in the field of natural sciences highly preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.  Possession of Grade C or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State of North Carolina relevant to the facility or obtain certification within the probationary period. Valid Driver's License.

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of wastewater plant machinery and office equipment including various wastewater pumps, chlorinators, mixers, computers, two-way radios, etc. Must also be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 110 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to walk, stand, stoop, bend, climb, and reach.

This is a swing shift Poston, 12 hour rotating shifts 8-8.
