Job Responsibilities

 
  • Provides psychiatric medical services to assigned inmates.
  • Performs assessments and makes diagnoses according to DSM-IV criteria.
  • Prescribes appropriate medication and monitors for improvement and Side effects.
  • Documents all inmate interactions per SCDC protocols.
  • Works in conjunction with counseling and medical staff.
  • Serves as resource to provide education to staff and inmates.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

SCDC REQUIREMENTS:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).

  • Three (3) years residency in psychiatry.
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the state of South Carolina.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and skills used in examination, diagnosis and treatment of the mentally ill and principles and practices of psychiatric medicine.
  • Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry, or eligible for and/or in the process of receiving certification.
