Job Summary

The Cook is a part time, hourly position performing work for the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Facility.  Work involves meal preparation for juvenile inmates in the Shelby County Juvenile Detention Facility.  This position cooks complete meals under the direct supervision of the Lead Cook.

Qualifications and Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Six months experience with large quantity food preparation.
  • Experience planing menus, including special diet requirements and using proper food handling techniques.
  • Experience keeping food supply inventories and reviewing invoices for accuracy regarding food orders and receipts.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining records of refrigeration temperatures and dishwasher temperatures to ensure the safe and proper cleaning of dishes, utensils and equipment.
  • Willing to work nonstandard hours and on weekend, when necessary.
  • Physical examination and health clearance.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

  • Experience preparing and maintaining records for Federal Government reimbursement.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work is light in nature and involves standing, walking, bending and lifting.

EXAMINATIONS: No written or performance examination will be required for this position.
