The Applied Research and Performance Audit Analyst performs high level research and analysis work.  The work includes collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from various sources and reporting on the implications and results of the information reviewed.

The position reports to the Applied Research and Performance Audit Manager under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
 

Essential Responsibilities

(Duties include but are not limited to):

  • Use statistical methods and relational databases to analyze data sets.
  • Provide consultation and technical advice on research methods and techniques.
  • Identify, define, and research issues of strategic importance and initiate program strategy development.
  • Assist in designing and creating computer programs for research applications.
  • Review and evaluate planning materials for contractual compliance.
  • Collect, organize and analyze data and prepare responses, reports, data visualizations, briefs and publications.
  • Plan and conduct data-gathering interviews, research projects and field surveys with guidance.
  • Monitor, report on, and participate in legislative, technical, fiscal, policy, interagency and strategic planning meetings.
  • Interpret historical, current and projected data to identify problems, causes, and areas for which procedural or system changes are indicated.
  • Consult and communicate with other external groups.
  • Conduct data quality assurance procedures.
  • Consult with management to initiate studies; identify priorities; and define study scope, methodology, purpose, objectives, time frames and resource requirements.
  • Contribute to internal office-wide projects.
  • Perform related work as assigned.

Essential Attributes and Skills

  • Skill with technology (i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel) and methods to analyze and synthesize quantitative and qualitative information.
  • Communicate professionally in writing and orally (including presentations in formal and information settings).
  • Ability to independently and effectively create timely, relevant, accurate, and valid work products.
  • Knowledge of legislative process and related issues/history/trends for agency performance, budget, finance, and operations.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation with a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • At least two years of experience in a relevant policy area.
  • Earned graduate degree is preferred.
  • Course-work or degree in public policy administration, program evaluation, quantitative/qualitative research, educational measurement/research, financial affairs, accounting, academic affairs, economics, legal research, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with software package Tableau preferred.
  • Legislative experience preferred.
  • A graduate degree in a closely related field with appropriate course-work may be substituted for two years of work experience.
