Job Responsibilities

Under general supervision assists transmitter supervisors in the operation of multiple digital broadcast transmitter installations.  Provides relief coverage for transmitter supervisors.

Performs routine and emergency maintenance on very complex high power broadcast transmitters.

Performs routine and emergency maintenance on very complex video and audio processing, monitoring, remote control, and associated equipment.

Prepares monthly ETV Transmitter Reports.
 
Checks broadcast signals and operation for compliance with FCC and FAA rules and regulations.
 
Keeps required records and files for compliance with FCC and FAA rules and regulations.  Orders parts, supplies, and tools as required for transmitters, associated equipment and building.  Maintains building and grounds. Performs general inspection of transmitting tower, guy lines, and guy anchors.
 
Assists with management and maintenance of Emergency Communication Systems.  Attends meetings and other events/functions as SC ETV representative.

Other related tasks as assigned by Manager, Transmitter  Operations, and V.P. Engineering.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

An Associate degree in electronics and related experience.  A valid SC Driver's License.  FCC General Class Amateur Radio License.
 

Preferred Qualifications

An Associate degree in electronics or military electronics training and two (2) years of operating and maintaining a TV and FM, or high power radar transmitter installations and digital transmitters; or any equivalent combination of education, training or experience.  FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio License.
 

Additional Comments

A good knowledge of digital very high and ultra high frequency, high power transmitters, video and audio signals and circuits. A good knowledge of analog and digital two way radio communications systems.  A working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.  A good working knowledge of mechanical systems, pumps, blowers, etc.  Ability to perform limited administrative duties and prepare reports and records.  Ability to perform job with limited supervision.
 
Incumbent in this position must possess or obtain both of the following within the first six(6) months of employment:

  • A valid SC Driver's License and
  • A valid FCC General Class Amateur Radio License
