Description/Duties & Responsibilities

The City of the Santa Clarita has a part-time/temporary/seasonal (PTS) position available in the Parks Division of the Neighborhood Services Department. Under supervision, this position will perform maintenance of small power equipment and other duties as assigned.

*Work schedule is 4 days/week from 6:30 – 11:30 a.m.*

Flexible on Mondays and Fridays

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain weekly schedule for safety inspecting/cleaning of small power equipment

• Work with Parks Staff to pick up and deliver vehicles according to preventative maintenance or repair schedule

• Pick up and deliver parts and supplies at/to local vendors

• Conduct minor equipment repairs such as spark plugs, air filters, and belts

• Check equipment out to Staff

• Make minor equipment repairs

• Maintain shop cleanliness

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent

• A valid Class C California Driver's License and a safe driving record

• Valid Class A California Driver's License desired, but not mandatory

• One year of small equipment servicing experience

Knowledge and Abilities

• Basic operations and maintenance of small power equipment and components

• Use of basic shop hand and power tools such as ratchets, sockets, hand wrenches, screw drivers, pneumatic power tools, and grease guns

• Ability to drive a variety of equipment and Class C vehicles

• Keep basic maintenance records

• Safe working practices

• Understand and follow both oral and written instructions

• Communicate effectively and tactfully in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing

• Effectively work with minimum supervision, exercise good independent judgment and perform effectively in stressful situations

• Expected to be positive, knowledgeable and courteous

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Working Conditions:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands in order to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, machines, or controls; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move, carry, pull, and push tools, supplies and other equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clear vision, color vision, and ability to focus.

• The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, hot or cold weather conditions; fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is moderately noisy.
