Position Summary

To assist the Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys and other office staff in the establishment, modification, and enforcement of child support pursuant to Federal and State Title IV-D laws. To provide friendly efficient and effective services to custodial and non-custodial parents through interviews, telephone contact and case processing.

The duties are conducted primarily in the office with some meetings and/or tasks to be conducted outside the office. Duties may also include working in two basement storage facilities. Duties may require sitting/walking at will, walking up and down flights of stairs, pulling files weighing up to 35 pounds from cabinets, shelves, boxes and offices while sometimes reaching, bending, crouching/kneeling/stooping to locate and pull files while using a step stool and pulling cart weighing up to 50 pounds.. Work hours will primarily be Monday through Friday from 7:45 AM until 4:45 PM with an hour for lunch.

After the initial training one to two (1-2) weeks individual will be temporarily assigned to a section to start training in that section for the next six (6) months.

Position Responsibilities

Responsibilities and Tasks:

1. Interview custodial and non-custodial parents during appointments, walk-ins and by telephone to ensure that those who seek child support services are assisted in a manner consistent with office policies as well as local, State and Federal laws and regulations.

2. Complete all follow-up case processing within the assigned time frame.

3. Process all appointment no show files the same day as received.

4. Process all transfers within 3 business days or sooner when necessary.

5. Work all File Requests and Transfer files weekly. Cite cases into court in a timely manner.

6. Prepare cases for court two weeks prior to the court date.

A. Ensure all cases are accounted for that appear on the docket.

B. See that all cause numbers and notes for the court are on the docket.

C. Make sure service type has been completed or follow up on results.

D. Make sure that the Bench Warrant stamp has been completed on the inside of the file.

E. Review files and complete court preparation sheets to prepare cases for hearing.

F. Transport the court files to the appropriate person in the time frame given.

7. Complete all dispositions on cases after court within 24 hours. Complete follow up on all cases in court. This includes sending income withholding orders when possible. Completion of updated case information in ISETS and updating case information as needed.

8. Work all mail within 2 days of receipt.

9. Work worklist daily; then prioritize and work weekly.

10. Return all phone calls within 24 hours.

11. Review and send out Income Withholding orders to employers.

12. Answer and process calls using a multi-line phone system.

13. Attend court to assist individual court participants and Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys.

14. Conduct interviews by phone and process files same day.

15. Participate in the planning, review and evaluation of the Intake procedures, goals and objectives.

16. Attend scheduled meetings including: monthly group meetings, meetings with Supervisor and evaluation meetings.

17. Thoroughly learn the policies and procedures of the Child Support Division so that accurate information is given to custodial and non-custodial parents as well as staff of other agencies.

18. Be punctual and have excellent attendance

19. Branch Managers will conduct interviews and follow-up on files in accordance with Marion County Prosecutor's Office Child Support Division procedures and guidelines.

20. Maintain the confidentiality of records as required by office policy and State and Federal law.

21. Maintain a highly professional attitude and appearance.

22. Ensure that all work is completed in compliance of all applicable local, state, federal and IRS laws and regulations.

24. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Paralegal certificate, college degree and/or related experience preferred. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to efficiently process information and utilize problem solving skills. Time management skills a must. Ability to manage a number of assignments and meet deadlines. Excellent attendance record. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people as a cooperative unit. Ability to work with the public and maintains a professional public image.

Applicant must be a resident of Marion County at time of hire or willing to relocate to Marion County within six (6) months from the date the position is accepted.

NOTE: Each applicant will be given a math test as part of the interview process. The math test given, must be successfully passed during the interview process in order to be considered for the position.

Child Support paralegal must be able to successfully complete a child support worksheet training class based on worksheet completion within the first 6 months of being hired. Child Support paralegal must take periodic in house re-training courses on preparing child support worksheets and successfully complete each re-training course in order to maintain employment as a child support paralegal.

All rates are bi-weekly.
