General Description

Develop and expand skills in area of study by performing administrative and/or professional work in an assigned area, assisting in varied administrative assignments such as research, analysis and report writing or routine technical and professional work at an intern level.

Essential Job Functions

Assist in a variety of administrative tasks within various County departments;
Provide research assistance;
Collect and analyze data, prepare correspondence and reports;
May interview and consult with officials, employees, agency clients and other interested individuals or groups;
May assist with technical assignments;
Perform routine work pertinent to the subject area to which assigned;
Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE OF: English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; arithmetic and basic mathematical calculations.

ABILITY TO: On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand at counter for long periods of time; know and understand the job and observe safety rules. Intermittently, sit while studying or preparing work papers, making computations, working at computer equipment; walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing field work; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and see and hear sufficiently to communicate by visual and auditory signals while working in the field; lift moderate to heavy weight depending upon the needs of the assignment. Learn a variety of administrative and professional tasks. Learn to prepare effective reports and make recommendations on assigned matters under study. Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Must be actively pursuing a degree related to the assigned area of interest. Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 semester hours. Proof of student status is required, and a letter of recommendation from a professor within student's major discipline must be submitted.

CERTIFICATION: Some positions may require additional education in a specific course of study. License or Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license may be required.

NOTE: Employment in this class is temporary in nature and is designed to offer the student a practical learning experience. No full-time permanent appointments will be made in this class.

HOLIDAYS: Employees receive 11 paid holidays.

SICK LEAVE: Employee is eligible to receive 8 paid sick hours per month.

RETIREMENT: Retirement paid 97% by County through the State of Florida Retirement System (FRS).  Benefits are payable at 8 years of service. Eligibility depends on option chosen; either 1 or 8 years to vest.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION: Tax deferred savings plan available for retirement purposes. Employee pays full cost.

SOCIAL SECURITY: Social Security Retirement, Disability, and Insurance Benefits.

CREDIT UNION: Banking services including checking, savings, and loans available per credit union policy.

JURY DUTY: Paid leave for jury duty

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE: Up to three (3) days leave for death in immediate family.
