Description

Responsible supervisory and inspection of work on the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, instrumentation and control equipment.  Work is performed under general direction.  Supervises employees making repairs, provides guidance and routine inspections of their work progress. Works with Asset Management/Project Specialist to develop and implement preventative maintenance programs, job plans, scheduling, review and close out of work orders. Determines priorities and initiates preventative maintenance programs using asset management system. Inspects and coordinates repairs of complex electrical and control equipment, including SCADA and PLCs for proper operation.  Keeps records on equipment life cycle for Capital Replacement Plan. Coordinates work between consultants, vendors and contractors on plant repairs, equipment installations and improvement projects keeping management updated on issues and progress. Responsible for the sourcing of necessary equipment and materials. Assists Superintendent with budget planning, administration of maintenance contracts, selection/evaluation of personnel, development and mentoring of staff. Performs related work as required. This is an essential position, incumbent will be required to work extended hours during and after hurricanes or other disasters. Works proactively providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers. Follows safety procedures and promotes a safe work environment.  A strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.  Needs to have an Intellectual curiosity and a desire to find answers.

Typical Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required, supplemented by technical college certification, AA degree or Master Electrician' License is preferred. At least five years' supervisory experience in Maintenance operations of electrical equipment, mechanical equipment, instrumentation and control equipment. Experience in the maintenance of low and medium voltage electrical systems and equipment, electrical distribution systems, including experience in the repair and installation of pumping and other mechanical equipment. Knowledge of standard practices, tools, terminology and safety standards of the electrical and mechanical trades required. Ability to understand construction plans and equipment/facility schematics. Construction/project management experience preferred. Ability to effectively supervise others is imperative. A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Candidates must possess effective communication skills with the ability to speak, write, and understand English, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions. This is a Lean Six Sigma Utility, training will be required within 12 months of hire.  Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, walk, stand, push, pull and dig.  Ability to perform moderate moving up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally perform moving up to 75 lbs. Noise level is moderate to high.  Exposure to chemicals, machinery hazards and adverse outdoor weather conditions.  Must obtain CPR training within one year.  Possession of a valid Florida driver's license. Must be able to operate a computer. Hands on testing of computer skills will be conducted.

Position is open until filled.

Employees are paid biweekly. The pay range consists of a minimum and maximum salary. Initial appointment is usually made at the minimum salary of the pay range, but a higher salary may be considered for an especially well qualified candidate or to meet unusual needs. Annual merit increases of up to 3% up to the maximum of the pay range are based on fully effective job performance, or above, and are not automatic. Eligible Fire department employees receive annual merit increases of up to 4%.

Group health insurance is paid for by the City; 100% for full time employees and 50% for eligible dependents.

Paid leave includes: Vacation – accrue ten (10) days annually; Sick Leave – accrue twelve (12) days annually; Holidays – twelve (12) days off; Personal Days – two personal days after six months of service.

Pension plan: General Employees' Retirement System participation is required for all eligible employees. Each employee contributes a tax deferred deduction of 7% of their salary to the plan and the City contributes a like amount. The defined benefit pension plan is based on the average of the last five base salary years times 2% times years of service. If an employee leaves the employ of the City prior to seven (7) year vesting or retirement, their contribution, with interest, is refundable.  Fire pension participants contribute 11.6% and are required to participate in the Pompano Beach Police & Firefighters' Retirement System.

Other benefits offered to City employees include: cost of living adjustments (when applicable), tuition reimbursement, tax deferred savings plan, credit union services, direct deposit, sick leave bank, sick leave to vacation conversion, and an employee assistance program.

Part time employees are not eligible for benefits and benefits may vary depending on bargaining units.
