Position Summary

Chicano Studies provides an interdisciplinary program educating students about the experiences, culture, and identities of the Chicanx population of the United States, with a specific focus on the Borderlands, the state of Colorado, the region of Southern Colorado, and the community of Pueblo.

This position is a 4/4 teaching load with a 1/4 time release each semester to administer the Chicanx Studies program.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Teach Chicano Studies courses (mainly cross-listed with history) at the undergraduate level
    • Prepare and present course materials according to college and department curricular needs
    • Administer appropriate evaluation of student performance
    • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments
    • Hold office hours
    • Assign final grades
  • Coordinate Chicano Studies Program
    • Advise students minoring in Chicano studies about courses, progress toward graduation, and post-graduation plans
    • Complete graduation contracts
    • Prepare catalog or programmatic changes for CAPB
    • Maintain a budget and schedule speakers and community collaboration
    • Oversee Senior-to-sophomore courses including course and instructor approval and classroom observations
    • Schedule courses to ensure students have the maximum opportunity to complete the Chicano Studies Minor
    • Prepare an annual assessment report
    • Oversee adjunct faculty recruitment, hiring, and performance
    • Maintain a strong community presence and coordinate community and on campus speakers, e.g. Cinco de Mayo, Hispanic Heritage Month, Dia de la Raza
Ancillary Duties
  • Attend CHASS and Department of History, Political Science, Philosophy, and Geography functions and meetings
  • Attend and prepare events to recruit students into CSU-Pueblo, CHASS, and the Chicano Studies Minor

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in History with sufficient coursework and/or research experience to teach courses cross-listed with Chicanx Studies OR
  • Master's Degree in Chicanx Studies, Ethnic Studies, or a related discipline with at least 18 credit hours of graduate work in History
  • Experience teaching in history and/or Chicanx Studies courses at the undergraduate level
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of community work and/or research involving the Chicanx community
