Position Summary

The Facilities Management department exists to provide a safe, clean, aesthetic, and sustainable environment that will enhance and support the mission and academic goals of the University.  The Facilities Management Departments employs approximately 65 people who respond to the building maintenance, grounds maintenance, and custodial needs of over 1,700,000 square feet of maintainable building area and 279 acres of campus space.  The Facilities Management Department is responsible for providing short-term and long-term physical development of the campus through the Planning and Construction Department.  The Facilities Management Department also manages the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Department, which is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining EH&S programs to ensure safe and healthy environments on campus.

The Assistant Director of Facilities Management reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management.  The Assistant Director of Facilities Management is responsible for supervising and directing all activities relating to building, grounds, and custodial maintenance, central receiving, warehousing, and distribution services.  The Assistant Director of Facilities Management is to provide the vision, direction, and motivation for all the daily activities of over 50 employees; utilize best practices to improve efficiency, by reducing operating cost while increasing productivity; responsible for developing a preventive maintenance program for campus facilities; and responsible to negotiate and manage various minor construction/renovation projects; providing recommendations and budget information for future Controlled Maintenance requests.  The Assistant Director of Facilities Management is required to act in the absence of the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management.  The Assistant Director of Facilities Management promotes respect, integrity, adaptability to its organization while maintaining a healthy, sustainable environment for the students, faculty, and staff.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • Provide vision, direction, and supervision of all activities relating to building, grounds, and custodial maintenance, central receiving, warehousing, and distribution services.
  • Effectively monitor and update the preventive maintenance program in the Facilities Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), as well as conduct building audits to ensure that the campus needs are being met.
  • Conduct building audits to ensure that buildings are being appropriately maintained and that the necessary building maintenance is being completed.
  • Effectively work with the necessary individuals to ensure that the needs of campus activities and events are provided for.
  • Negotiate and manage various minor construction/renovation projects as necessary.
  • Assist the Associate Vice President for Facilities Management in preparing budgets for the Department.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years experience in plant management, including building maintenance, grounds maintenance, custodial maintenance, and warehouse
  • Experience supervising a minimum of 5 employees
  • Working knowledge of building codes and trades
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduation from a 4-year University in Facilities Management, Engineering or subject closely related to Facilities Management
