Description


The House Manager for the Cary Arts Center and The Cary Theater oversees public areas of the performing arts venues affiliated with the Town of Cary and does related work as required. The House Manager also manages all ushers and assists with greeting patrons, ensuring that the overall experience of each patron is enjoyable and safe.

 Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Specialist - Audience Development, and includes related work pre and post - show. This is a part-time (10 - 19 hours per week), flexible position. General event shifts occur days, nights, and throughout weekends. 

Typical Tasks

The position entails a high level of customer interaction, requiring a professional demeanor and image.

Assists with training and managing of ushers and house staff for all performances;

Coordinates all volunteer and/or unpaid workers;

Assists with the set-up of pre-show receptions;

Oversees merchandise displays related to events and helps maintain the tidiness of the public spaces, as well as any artwork or advertisements that are on display.

Manages multiple projects and responsibilities;

Provides stellar customer service and strong leadership, motivating and inspiring staff to perform to the best of their abilities;

Will cross-train on basic box office procedures as needed.

Performs other job-related duties as required.

Requires the ability to maintain a professional demeanor and image, as this is a customer facing job;

Must have the ability to deal with the public in a firm and tactful manner, while representing the Town of Cary and the highest quality, programs that are offered.

Requires excellent verbal communication skills.

Requires the ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others.

Requires the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Must be able and motivated to acquire knowledge of the policies, procedures and services of the centers, divisions and departments;

Must be able to complete assignments accurately and prior to established deadlines with limited supervision.

Will occasionally need to lift heavy items, such as boxes, up to 25 pounds.

Must be able to work variable hours, including occasional weekends and nights, depending upon the events scheduled and the need for training of new staff.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with 1 - 2 years of experience working in theater operations.

Requires CPR and First Aid certifications,  or the ability to acquire these certifications upon hire with supplied training.

Prefers candidates who are passionate about the performing arts.

Requires ability to work part-time, non-traditional hours including days, nights, and weekends, as dictated by the Town of Cary's performing arts schedules.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
