Position Summary

Information Technology (IT)
The IT unit exists to provide comprehensive information technology partnership, delivery and support in the form of personnel, desktop and mobile computing, multimedia equipment, hardware, network infrastructure, software, telephone and network cabling services to the University community.  This unit is the centralized computer services department for the University.

Innovative Technology Group (ITG) - Multimedia Services
The work group exists to provide campus with instructional technology, multimedia services, and website technical expertise in support of students, faculty, staff, and technology users.  The ITG is the integral experience layer in the technology enriched environment for the academic learning community.  The team consists of Instructional Technology, Multimedia Services (MS), and Web Development. Instructional Technology provides assistance and resolution for many technology questions and requests from faculty, staff and students as it pertains to academic learning and technology use in the modern classroom, online classroom, and throughout the internet.  Multimedia Services oversee the installation, maintenance, and management of classrooms, signage, and video conferencing.  Web Development manages the university web presence and oversees training of a multitude of web editors across campus to address accessibility, design, development, multimedia, and content on the site.  Staff assists and advises end-users on new, creative and effective techniques, best practices, and compliance.  Overall, the ITG assists in solving problems and developing projects using a variety of software, hardware, and innovative technologies.

This position reports directly to the Manager of Innovative Technology.  Prompt and accurate service is expected when providing assistance and resolution for all technology questions/requests, and MS should strive to provide a superior level of service at all times.  As the MST; responsible for all technology support/ customer service functions in relation to the University's multimedia classrooms, video conferencing, digital signage, and for collaborating, communicating, and working with other ITS departments to support campus wide technology implementations, and service requests and questions for the MS or ITG as a whole.

This position exists to provide ITS work unit activities, in the implementation and support of all multimedia classroom environments, video conferencing, digital signage, and expertise in various multimedia implementations.  Performing, the setup and maintenance of multimedia equipment, desktop and laptop PCs (for lectures), and peripherals in a network environment for the Multimedia classrooms, common spaces, and meeting rooms in accordance with established ITS policies and procedures; problem diagnosis and resolution for computer software and hardware; and assisting and educating end users regarding technology-related questions, problems and policies.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Primary Duties

  • The campus go-to video conference expert that assists in coordination, setup, and technical aspects of facilitating video calls to and from campus using current technology such as Polycom, Zoom, BlueJean, Skype, and/or whatever video conferencing technologies emerge in the future.
  • Provides the installation, configuration and maintenance of electronic equipment such as data projectors, audio video switchers and multimedia control equipment, electric projection screens, and computer lecterns in new/existing multimedia classrooms.  provides the installation, configuration and maintenance of all computer equipment, and software in new/existing student computer labs.  Provides maintenance of electronic and computer equipment in all existing multimedia classroom, video conferencing rooms, common spaces, and meeting rooms.  This includes keeping the rooms and equipment in a clean orderly professional condition, and ensures equipment is reliable and in good working condition.  Uses established troubleshooting procedures to verify reported problems when end users are unable to provide adequate information.  Uses established diagnostic procedures to identify problem(s) and performs the required repairs.  Explains service performed to users and educates users on how to avoid common problems.
  • Assist and advise end-users on effective techniques for working in a network-centric multimedia services environment by demonstrating the use of computers, electronic equipment and multimedia controllers.  This includes maintaining appropriate security measures, adhering to rules regarding software license management, usage of desktop and network resources, etc. Advises end users regarding legal requirements of software license agreements. Requires users to provide proof of licensing for any self-installed software.
  • Using provided tracking software, knowledgebase, and other resources to resolve and process requests for service, reviewing for accuracy and completeness; obtain additional information if necessary. This position must constantly maintain personal knowledge base of existing, new and emerging technologies to be able to apply them to solutions that will enhance the usability, reliability and cost effectiveness of the solution. Attend seminars and training as available and appropriate.
  • Implement ITS codes of conduct to be used when meeting with Faculty, Staff and Students. Encourage and build strong working relationships within the ITS department and the campus community. Will assist the division in special projects, as necessary.
  • Maintain a secure computing environment for the University campus community, colleges and departments.  This includes desktop, network, application and physical security, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
     

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in technology support, computer science, computer information systems or related field. Graduation from an accredited two year college with similar AA/AS to Bachelor's degree and additional two years' work experience also acceptable.
  • One year experience as a technology technician supporting technology implementations, which include building, installing, and maintaining multimedia and computer equipment in a network centric environment; with strong customer service and team skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years' experience as a technology technician supporting technology implementations, which include building, installing, and maintaining multimedia and computer equipment in a network centric environment; with strong customer service and team skills
  • Previous knowledge and/or experience working on desktop technology equipment and supporting software in Windows/Intel centric environment
  • Previous knowledge and/or experience working with and supporting multimedia and electronic presentation equipment
  • Strong communication skills, and skills at organizing and attending to details
  • Experience working in a position that required a high degree of customer service
  • Ability to work well in a team environment; and ability to demonstrate initiative/ self starter/self motivated.
