Basic Functions

Primary duties will be to perform all types of precision machine work.  Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Diagnoses, inspects, tests and repairs all components and equipment requiring machine work.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform journeyman level machinist duties as required. 
  • Maintains accurate records of all work performed.
  • Maintains work area, all tools, and equipment in a clean and safe manner.  
  • Able to calibrate, maintain, and use all types of precision measuring devices and instruments.
  • Designs and manufactures special tools for installing or removing bearings, sleeves, bushings, etc.  
  • Re-machines and repairs parts or components after being welded back to the original manufacturer specifications such as; re-machining damaged threads metric and standard, flanges, pistons, valves etc.
  • Indicates parts within .001 Total Indicator Runout and to machine given dimensions to within .0005, tolerance with a minimum of 32-micron finish.  
  • Extract broken bolts, shafts, pipe plugs, ease outs, taps, and repair thread on site e.g. in buses, frames, etc.
  • Performs line boring on machine housing, cases, bearing, hubs, shafts, spindles, blocks, etc.  
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.

Minimum five (5) years outside field Journey Machinist experience.   
  
Machinist Journeyman Program, Knowledge of operating Bridge Port Milling machine, 7" – 14" -18" lathes, radial drill press, magna flux and surface grinding machines.  Ability to read blue prints and manufacture parts to given tolerances.  Ability to use all precision instruments. e.g., micrometers, calipers depth gauges and feeler gauges etc. Must be able to perform all mathematical problems.  Able to maintain additional license or certifications as required. Must be certified in Magnetic Particles Inspection, and Liquid Penetrant Inspection.  Good communications (verbal/written) skills.  Able to complete/ fill-out written reports, records and forms.  

A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check is required prior to the placement of any individual in a position that requires the operation of a METRO revenue or non-revenue vehicle on behalf of METRO:
 
The Disqualifying Criteria is as follows:
- Invalid, suspended, or revoked driver's license
- Conviction of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the preceding three (3) years
- 2 or more DUI or DWI convictions with no time limit.
- Any accumulation of suspensions of over 1 year in length within the last 3 years
