Managing the Built Environment
 
Take your industry experience and advanced leadership skills to the next level in a challenging and rewarding position!  We are seeking our next Facilities Assistant Administrator to manage our built environment that spans the state with more than 60 facilities that are a home away from home for over 1,400 employees. 
 
Our ideal candidate has experience and expertise in facilities planning and project management.  They are a dynamic leader with a well-rounded tool kit of logic, wisdom, discretion, insight, charm, courage, perseverance, resilience, and agility.  And they are an astute steward of resources with budget management experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position in the Washington Management Service.  Salary will depend on qualifications.
 
What our Facilities Assistant Administrator does
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, this position:
 
  • Leads the facilities team and supervises subordinate managers and supervisors.  Makes hiring decisions, develops performance measures, determines priorities, and manages and evaluates performance.  Conducts fact findings and recommends disciplinary action.
  • Oversees an operating budget of $3 million per biennium and lease management for approximately 60 facilities, housing 1,400 employees statewide totaling $14 million.  Ensures expenditures are within required allotments.
  • Directs and oversees the Facilities Leadership Team, leading the strategic planning, development, and coordination of layout and space planning, and maintenance and control of leased and owned facilities.
  • Serves as liaison with the Office of Financial Management and Department of Enterprise Services regarding agency facility needs, and ensures planning staff have resources necessary to ensure timely execution of new and renewing leases.
  • Oversees completion of six year facility plan, updates to the Facilities Portfolio Management Tool, and develops, monitors and reports on metrics for key processes.  Performs trend analysis and recommends action to ensure results are within acceptable metric target levels.
  • Advises leadership and staff regarding administrative rules, policies, and facilities best practices, leveraging industry best practices to maximize efficiencies.  Develops and maintains agency facility policies.
  • Develops and implements or assists with organizational change management strategies for key projects.  Leads special projects, developing project plans, setting and maintaining schedules, and assigning and leading staff to ensure quality results.
 
Required Qualifications
Applicants who possess the following qualifications may be referred to the hiring manager:
 
  • A Bachelor's degree in business administration, construction management, architectural design or closely related field; OR equivalent professional experience.
  • Five years of managerial experience leading and supervising staff including subordinate managers or supervisors.
  • Experience managing and leading organizational change.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategic and operational plans.
  • Experience in administrative functions including human resources and budget management.
  • Experience in process improvement, quality assurance and project management.
  • Experience establishing, developing, maintaining, and leveraging professional relationships.
  • Experience communicating at all levels, including presenting complex information.
 
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants who also possess the following may receive additional consideration by the hiring manager:
 
  • Experience with logistics or facilities planning including development and planning of layout and space.
  • Experience or knowledge with applicable laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Project Management Certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with or knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Lean Six Sigma green belt or higher or comparable.
  • Experience in developing, interpreting and applying policies and procedures.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation
 
State Employees are members of the Washington Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).  New employees have the option of two employer contributed retirement programs.  For additional information, check out the Department of Retirement Systems' web site.
 
Employees also have the ability to participate in the Deferred Compensation Program (DCP).  This is a supplemental retirement savings program (similar to an IRA) that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
 
Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
