Job Responsibilities

 
  • Prepares patient for treatment.
  • Provides chairside assistance with all dental procedures.
  • Exposes, develops, mounts, and files dental X-rays.
  • Performs clerical duties when necessary.
  • Maintains dental equipment by cleaning and lubricating dental hand pieces, suction lines etc.
  • Prepares and mixes various filling and impression materials.
  • Cleans working area  and sterilizes instruments and equipment.
  • Schedules dental appointments.
  • Maintains records on patients.
  • Maintains the inventory of dental supplies.
  • Performs clinical laboratory procedures.
  • Operates dental equipment in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Keeps statistical reports on clinical activities.
  • Performs prephylaxis and oral hygiene instruction.
  • Prepares and maintains dental x-ray developing solutions.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina minimum requirements:
A high school diploma and experience or training within the specific work area.
(or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources)

SCDC minimum requirements:
Graduate from an ADA accredited Dental Assistant program and one (1)  year Dental Assistant experience.
Or a high school diploma and two (2) years Dental Assistant experience.
Certification in Dental Radiology by the South Carolina Board of Dentistry and current CPR certification.
