Purpose of Position:
The Pharmacy Technician position, under direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or Pharmacist in Charge, fills routine prescription dosage orders and prepackaged prescription pharmaceuticals for verification by the pharmacist. Counts, packages, labels unit doses for verification by the pharmacist and fills routine orders for non-prescription pharmaceuticals. Assists the pharmacist in the dispensing of prescriptions and performs a range of administrative and staff support functions at the discretion of the Director of Pharmacy or Pharmacist in Charge.

This position is a Pay Band 40.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year paid experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
 
Employment Requirements:
Employment is subject to criminal background check pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC), and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
 
Statutory Requirements: 
All applicants for this position must be certified in accordance with Pharmacy Technicians Act: 16.19.1.1 NMAC through 16 NMAC 19.1.1, 03-30-02 as applicable.

Working Conditions:
Position will perform work in a pharmacy setting along with a long-term care facility for Veterans with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and personal computer and phone usage. Incumbent may be exposed to potentially aggressive residents, and potential health and chemical hazards that may include but are not limited to, resident illness, chemical sensitivity and exposure to bodily fluids and blood. Essential functions of the job and physical ability requirements will be available at the time of interview or may be obtained at the New Mexico Veterans' Home Human Resources Office.
