Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Adult Psychiatrist - Central County (Open)

The County of San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) seeks a Board eligible or Board certified psychiatrist to serve as a staff Adult Psychiatrist at the Central County Behavioral Health Center in San Mateo, California.
 
The Central County position, providing professional adult psychiatric diagnostic and therapeutic services to clients of BHRS, is currently part time, 0.6 FTE (24 hours per week).

The expected start date for this position is July 16th, 2018.  We are accepting applications now.
 
The position offers competitive salary and excellent benefits package which includes County funded malpractice insurance, retirement plans and health benefits for retirees, reimbursement of professional dues and expenses (up to $2,500/year), an additional 5% increase in salary for each qualifying Board certification up to two (2) Boards, administrative leave time at 5 hours per pay period up to 260 hours (this is prorated for part time employees) that can be cashed out up to 50% each Spring, and a wellness program, including exercise classes, worksite massage, and an onsite gym.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conduct psychiatric assessments and make diagnoses.
• Prescribe appropriate treatment plans and prescribe therapy, psychotherapy, rehabilitation programs, and medications as needed.
• Medication management, including Medication Assisted Treatment for Substance Use Disorders as needed.
• Coordinate the work of consulting medical specialists.
• Act as physician member of a multi-disciplinary team for clinical work or program development.
• Train and supervise interns and residents.
• Provide clinical supervision to licensed and professional staff.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities.
• Conduct and direct individual and group psychotherapy.
• Consult and work with other medical and/or mental health professionals in the community when necessary.
• Confer with clients' relatives or loved ones regarding illness and treatment.
• Maintain electronic records of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis according to BHRS standards and other regulatory agencies.
• Develop comprehensive case histories.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• Current developments, trends and research in the field of medicine and psychiatry.
• Basic understanding of clinical supervisory principles and practices.
• Pharmacology and psychopharmacology including laws regarding informed consent, dosage ranges, drug incompatibilities, and side effects.
• Proper documentation of clinical services.
• General Medicine and its relationship to psychiatry.
• Current techniques and dynamics of individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy.
• Chemical dependency and abuse and its relationship to psychiatry.
• Psychiatric principles and practices.
• Community mental health practice and program options.
• Treatment approaches and differential diagnosis of the mentally ill.
• HIPPA regulations.
• Medical ethics as they relate to patient care.

• Diagnose and treat patients.
• Develop and monitor appropriate treatment plans.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, staff and others.
• Learn and apply laws, statutes, codes and regulations governing California health service providers, HIPAA, JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.
• Maintain medical records and prepare reports.
• Serve on interdisciplinary teams.
• Clinically supervise licensed and professional staff.

The examination process will consist of an application screening (pass/fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
