Description

Edison State Community College invites qualified candidates to apply for the full-time position of Dean of Student Affairs.  The Dean of Student Affairs serves as the Chief Student Affairs Officer of the College, providing strategic leadership, operational management, and budgetary oversight for the Student Affairs Division of the College.  The Dean supplies vision, planning, and leadership for the active integration of enrollment management and student success strategies and goals throughout the college.  This position plays a major role in and will direct decisions and implementation of policies and processes that affect all aspects of student recruitment, admissions, retention, completion, and conduct.

Examples of Duties

Functional Responsibilities: 

  1. Developing, planning, implementing and assessing the college's comprehensive Student Affairs activities and initiatives including:
    1. Support program planning and development.
    2. Long and mid-term planning to meet Student Success, recruitment, enrollment and retention needs.
    3. Lead efforts to assess program efficiencies and effectiveness.
  2. Conducting oversight and providing leadership in Student Life initiatives of Edison State Community College, including assisting the Director of Athletics and Student Life in developing, planning, implementing and assessing efforts to build a robust student life program at the institution.
  3. Coordinating compliance with Ohio Department of Higher Education guidelines and initiatives.
  4. Participating in strategic planning.
  5. Providing management of outreach initiatives including College Credit Plus and other enrollment initiatives.
  6. Lead the integration and implementation of recruitment and retention strategies and activities on an inter- and intra-departmental basis.
  7. Prepare and oversee multiple budgets
  8. Assist in the development of grant proposals to provide unique funding to assigned programs from outside governmental and private agencies.
  9. Coordinate the college's graduation rehearsal and ceremony.
  10. Compile and analyze enrollment trends and make recommendations for strategic intervention to enhance enrollment and retention.
  11. In collaboration with academic and student affairs staff, address and resolve student conduct issues. 
  12. Complete other duties as assigned by the Provost.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Qualifications:  

  1. A strong background in and a demonstrated commitment to current practices related to student services, enrollment enhancement and retention techniques and strategies.
  2. Demonstrated successful experience with student success, retention and completion strategies and theory.
  3. Demonstrated management skills, including budgeting, personnel skills, and strong verbal, written, and analytical skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage change.

Required Experience: 
Minimum of two years leadership experience in a higher education setting; community college leadership preferred.    
  
Required Educational Background:  
The completion of a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in an area appropriate to the responsibilities of the position.

The following benefits are available to full-time Administrative employees.  Employees working less than thirty hours a week are ineligible.

Edison State Community College provides excellent medical and dental plans with cost-shared premiums. 
The college offers a reimbursement program to share a portion of the employee's out-of-pocket expenses.
Each employee receives an accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy.

Retirement Benefits
Edison State Community College participates in the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS).
Based upon the Ohio Revised Code, 10% of an Edison State employee's gross salary is deposited into their individual OPERS account.  The college contributes an additional 14% which is not figured into the employee's base salary.   
An option for an alternate retirement plan is also available.  Employee and employer contributions would be the same as above.

Vacation
Administrative employees receive 4 weeks of vacation each year which begins accruing on the employee's first pay period.  After five years of employment with Edison State the administrative employee will receive 4.5 weeks each year and this once again increases to 5 weeks after ten years of employment with the college.

Sick Leave
Edison State employees receive 3 weeks of sick leave each year which begins accruing on the employees first pay period.

Holiday Pay
At the start of their employment employees are eligible to receive pay for the 11 holidays for which the campus is closed.

Tuition Waiver
Edison State employees receive 100% of their instructional fees waived for any Edison State courses they take.  
Dependents (spouse or children) of full time Edison State employees receive the same 100% waiver for Edison State course instructional fees and dependents of part time employees receive a partial waiver.

Tuition Reimbursement
Edison State offers partial tuition reimbursement for continued education.

Health Club Contribution
Edison State will pay a portion of an employee's yearly premiums for a health club membership.  Memberships to some local YMCA organizations can be payroll deducted.

The college also provides an on-site fitness center to employees, students and the community at no charge.
