Primary Objective

Performs building, custodial, and park maintenance tasks in a manner that will assure a safe, enjoyable, and high quality park visitor experience.

As a seasonal maintenance position, employment shall not exceed 67 working days in a calendar year.  Student seasonal employees, who are under the age of 22, a full-time student enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired and plan to be in or return to school after employment ends, may work 100 days in a calendar year.  In addition, seasonal employees hired in maintenance positions are not eligible for any other employment with the Park District during the calendar year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs building cleaning such as vacuuming, washing and waxing floors, cleaning windows, trash removal, dusting, sweeping, and snow removal.
 
Operates tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.•Operates hand tools and power tools.

  • Operates hand and riding maintenance equipment such as scrubbers, vacuums, push mowers, and utility carts.
  • Operates pickups.

Stocks supplies such as soap, towels, and toilet paper.

Sets up and arranges tables and chairs for reservation.

Assists in deep cleaning.

Creates positive image of the Park District in public contact situations.
  • Provides assistance and support for outdoor education and recreation programs, and special events.

Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
At least 16 years of age.  Valid Minnesota Class D Drivers License, upon appointment.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to maintain records and complete report forms in detail.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate and ratio.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk on uneven and rough terrain as well as paved and unpaved trails; use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools, or controls; and operate foot controls on equipment. The employee frequently is required to stand.  The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear.  When operating equipment, the employee is frequently exposed to bouncing, jostling, twisting, and turning of upper body.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, drive belts, blades, and gears.  The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions year-round with regular exposure to cold, often below zero degrees and low wind chill.  Conversely, summer conditions are often hot and humid with exposure to dust, pollen, and equipment exhaust fumes.  The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.  The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and some risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is sometimes loud.

Selection Procedure

A fully completed Three Rivers Park District Online Application must be received by Human Resources. This position is open until filled.
 
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of relevant experience and training. A top group of applicants will be invited to participate in further job screening.
 
Final appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a background investigation including a criminal history search. Costs of the background will be paid for by Three Rivers Park District.

Part-time Non-benefited and seasonal staff receive all legally mandated benefits such as worker’s compensation insurance and Social Security, but are ineligible for all other benefit programs.

Payroll Banking and Direct Deposit
Payroll banking via direct deposit is available to employees. In addition membership in the City/County Credit Union is also available. Enrollment information will be available at your orientation.

Complimentary Passes
A Recreation Activity Pass is available to provide employee access to some Park District recreational facilities for which a user fee is charged.
