Job Responsibilities

This position is located within the Division of Facilities Management and Property Services. The incumbent will plan for, implement and complete (individually or as a part of a team) assigned maintenance, repair and renovation of HVAC tasks professionally, efficiently, effectively, and safely in order to minimize unexpected and premature equipment failures. Incumbent will ensure Facilities Management owned and contracted buildings are in safe working order and compliant with codes and regulations. The incumbent will assist with maintenance, repair and renovation tasks of other various trades and complete all daily time sheets and record on all assigned tasks. Furthermore, the incumbent will identify, recommend and request equipment, materials, supplies and training needed to ensure necessary resources are available to complete work tasks and offer guidance, promote teamwork, cooperation, and work to resolve challenges. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

At least a high school diploma or an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources regulations and 5 years experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration systems.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge of national and local HVAC regulations and code requirements. Basic computer skills. Skill in making emergency repairs and adjustments to trade equipment. Must possess a valid South Carolina Class "D" driver's license. Must possess an EPA Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification. Ability to comprehend blueprints, plans, specifications, and equipment manufacturer's technical bulletins. Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding. Must have the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in confined spaces; hot, hazardous and noisy locations; and in adverse weather conditions. Position requires 37.5 hours per week and is subject to 24 hours per day off-duty calls. Incumbent may be required to work evenings and/or weekends, as well as during emergency or inclement weather situations. Position requires participation in the on-call program on a rotating basis. Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application will be required to bring a copy of college transcript to the interview.  A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application, if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant.  Please note that some areas  of the Department may require an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area, after hiring.  Failure to produce an official, certified transcript may result in not being hired or termination.
