Position Summary

This position offers non-competitive career advancement opportunities for a motivated and professional individual as outlined in the Service Authority's Instrumentation and Electrical Technician Career Path.

Applicants without the required CCST or Journeyman Electrical license may be considered for an Instrumentation and Electrical (I&E) Technician I and will be required to advance to a level II as part of an employment contingency.  The salary range for an I&E Tech I is $22.82 - $30.65 hourly


Position Summary:  This position performs technical maintenance and repair of either Electrical or Instrumentation and control equipment in support of the Service Authority's (Authority) maintenance programs. The work involves maintaining and repairing a variety of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical equipment, appliances and devices using specialized test equipment and instruments.

 

Position Responsibilities / Essential Job Functions

Instrumentation
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance and repairs on Instrumentation equipment including, but not limited to pressure transmitters, magnetic flow meters, etc.
  • Assesses and completes performance checks on equipment such as level controllers, pressure transmitters etc. and records and validates instrument performance.
  • Makes adjustments to Instrumentation equipment identified as not performing up to specifications.
  • Diagnoses equipment malfunctions, replaces faulty equipment and verifies standards.
  • Utilizes appropriate simulation equipment to validate a proper loop function.
  • Provides detailed analysis of Instrumentation equipment and follow-up on preventive maintenance.
  • Utilizes appropriate equipment specific tools, such as amp meters, process calibrators, digital multi-meters, for Instrumentation equipment testing and repair as needed.
  • Effectively communicates and works closely with other I&E Technicians on daily work assignments, projects and tasks.
  • Writes clear and concise general notes regarding daily maintenance work using the CMMS system and responds to emails.
  • Preps sites for safety based on tasks and utilizes appropriate advanced safety precautions as required (i.e. guidelines found on SDS, safety glasses, ear protection, hard hat, gas monitoring, etc.).
  • Interacts with customer to identify root cause of malfunctions or problems and assists with identifying solutions.
  • Documents equipment problems and solutions.
  • Provides training for new employees on existing equipment and systems.
  • Operates a Service Authority vehicle.
  • Participate in and successfully complete rotational training (EWSR or O&M) estimated training rotation up to three months
  • May be deemed essential at any time.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
     
Electrical
  • Performs basic preventive maintenance and repairs on Electrical equipment and wiring including, but not limited to motors, breakers etc.
  • Disconnects, connects and rewires electrical wiring according to the NFPA 70 (NEC), 70E & 70B and current Virginia uniform statewide building code while installing, modifying and maintaining Authority equipment.
  • Diagnoses failed motors and electrically prepares for motor removal and replacement connection.
  • Verifies proper performance of newly installed Electrical equipment.
  • Records Electrical readings, compares to specifications and makes adjustments as necessary
  • Provides detailed analysis of Electrical equipment and follow up on preventive maintenance.
  • Utilizes appropriate equipment specific tools and safely removes Electrical equipment from service prior to initiating repairs or testing.
  • Effectively communicates and works closely with other I&E Technicians on daily work assignments, projects and tasks.
  • Writes clear and concise general notes regarding daily maintenance work using the CMMS system and responds to emails.
  • Preps sites for safety based on tasks and utilizes appropriate advanced safety precautions as required (i.e. guidelines found on SDS, safety glasses, ear protection, hard hat, gas monitoring, etc.).

  • Possesses and demonstrates working knowledge of the methods and procedures of the Instrumentation trade and of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the field.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of, and ability to use the tools, equipment and materials used in the Instrumentation trade, as well as basic mathematics, computer use and English.
  • Ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs of low complexity to a variety of Instrumentation and control equipment.
  • Possesses a knowledge of and ability to use the Authority's Information Technology systems, including GIS, SCADA, CMMS, as well Microsoft Office.
  • Able to operate a Service Authority vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
  • Ability to follow established Service Authority policies and procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, communicate effectively and to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work on-call as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possesses a valid CCST Level I Certification.
  • Successfully complete Authority testing requirements for position.
  • Possesses a combination of education and experience as described above.
     
    Electrical
