Job Responsibilities

This position reports to the Executive Director of the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum. Incumbent will function as the Chief Curator for collections, exhibits, and programming, providing oversight and overall supervision for the museum's artifact and archival collection and interpretation of the collection for all museum exhibits (including overseeing conception,design, interpretation, implementation, and fabrication). Oversees the development, scheduling, and implementation of educational programs for students, regular lecture programs, and special weekend programs. Ensures the Registrar develops, implements, and maintains the museum's collection policies and procedures to ensure adherence to AAM and AASLH standards .Supervises the museum's scholarly publications programs.  This position will direct and manage the agency's programs, supervising the Curator of History, Museum Registrar, and Education Curator. Performs other duties as required. 

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor's degree and relevant program experience. 

Agency Minimum Requirements: A Master's degree in Museum Administration, History, Public Administration, or a related field and five years of relevant experience; or an approved equivalence by the Division of State Human Resources.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Position may require overnight travel, working evening and/or weekends, overtime, routine driver's duties, and frequent stooping and bending. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Strong writing and proofreading skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products. Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application will be required to bring a copy of college transcript to the interview.  A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application, if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant.  Please note that some areas  of the Department may require an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area, after hiring.  Failure to produce an official, certified transcript may result in not being hired or termination.
