Position Summary

The Operations and Maintenance Department is currently recruiting applicants to fill full-time temporary/seasonal positions to assist in the day-to-day maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant. Opportunities are available at a variety of skills and levels from unskilled to skilled laborers.

NOTE:  The eligible list created from this application may be used to fill Maintenance V-VI positions as they become available in other departments within the City.

This job posting will be open until all positions are filled.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the maintenance and repairs at the water treatment plant and facilities
  • Perform and assist with general cleaning of facilities
  • Perform and assist with semi-skilled and skilled work in maintenance tasks
  • Operate vehicles and small equipment
  • Collect and maintain records, including water level monitoring
  • Perform heavy manual labor
  • Promote harmonious relations with fellow employees, divisions, departments and with the public
  • Perform Operations and Maintenance-related duties
     

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or the equivalent
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Possess a valid unrestricted driver's license
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and meet the physical demands of the position
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and temperature extremes
  • Ability to relate to and work with individuals representing a variety of diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to professionally exhibit cultural sensitivity, patience and understanding in the course of work duties
  • Ability to provide a level of customer service that meets/exceeds customer expectation and satisfaction
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience operating small equipment
  • Previous utility, plumbing, or building maintenance work experience
  • Previous cleaning/janitorial experience
  • Possess a Minnesota Class "D" water operator's license
  • Possess CPR, First Aid, AED certifications
  • Previous experience working with diverse customers and population
  • Fluency in a second language other than English

Additional Information

Department/Division: Operations & Maintenance/Water Treatment Plant

Anticipated Work Schedule: Positions are full-time, temporary/seasonal positions that will work 40 (forty) hours per week. Work shifts are 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, four (4) days a week.

Pay Class: Maintenance Worker V/VI          Pay Grade: (605)(606) $12.39-$16.76 Hourly

Anticipated Hiring Wage: $12.39 - $12.76 hourly, depending on qualifications

Regular, full-time City of Brooklyn Park employees (30 or more hours per week) are eligible for a benefits package including:
