Description

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Prince George's County Park Police Division is currently accepting applications for Sworn Police Officers who are currently or previously certified in the State of Maryland (MPTC Certified) or meet Comparative Compliance standards. The M-NCPPC Park Police department is seeking men and women that exhibit characteristics of good character, sound judgment, honesty, reliability and integrity.

 

Examples of Important Duties

Patrols an assigned beat in a patrol car, motorcycle, or on horseback, or foot; observes and reports incidents of vandalism, violations of state law and park rules and regulations; notes and reports unsafe and unsightly conditions within parks; directs traffic and parking; responds to calls for service and renders assistance as needed; secures a crime or accident scene and takes initial statements from victims and witnesses; apprehends, arrests, and books suspects; writes reports on incidents encountered during patrol; and,

On horseback performs crowd control duties during major events; grooms and examines horses for illness or injury; maintains tack and other equipment in good condition; feeds and stables horses at the end of shift; performs minor veterinary care;

On motorcycle patrols bike paths and regional park areas; maintains motorcycles on a routine maintenance basis;

On foot patrols regional parks or other areas on foot; assists with crowd control at ice rinks, concerts, etc.

May serve as Field Training Officer to supervise, instruct, and evaluate trainee police candidates during field training period.

Prepares cases and appears in Court to testify as arresting officer or witness.

May be assigned to perform preliminary or follow up investigations under supervision and prepares reports on evidence obtained.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Twelve (12) months of police experience as a Police Officer.

Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Supplemental Information

The Lateral Orientations will be held on June 2, 2018 and June 16, 2018.  Once a sufficient candidate pool has been achieved, this announcement will be closed and notification will be provided to candidates regarding their scheduled date and time.

Lateral candidates are required to successfully complete post-offer medical/stress/psychological evaluations and pass an extensive background investigation.

The following information is a summary of benefits extended to all Merit System employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC).  All plans are optional except the Defined Benefit and Long Term Disability plans.
 
Retirement Programs
  • Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) – Plans A, B and E exclude FOP members.

Plan Employee Contribution
Plan A: 7% of base salary. Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB.
Plan B: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and7% in excess of SSWB.
Plan C: 9% of base salary. (FOP members only)
Plan D: 8% of base salary.  (FOP members only)
Plan E: 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB.

Health Insurance Plans (FOP Members Pay 20% for Medical, Prescription and Dental.) All others pay percentage below.

Flexible Spending Accounts (Employee Pays 100%)
  • Medical Account – Maximum annual contribution: $2,550
  • Dependent Care Account – Maximum annual contribution: $5,000
 
Long-Term Disability Insurance (Mandatory Participation)
  • Employee Pays 20%: Commission Pays 80% (FOP Members Pay 100%)            
  • Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary, maximum of $6,000/month
 
Supplemental Long-Term Disability Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)
  • Benefits paid at 66 2/3% of base salary that exceeds $108,000; capped at $216,000
 
Basic Life and AD&D Insurance (Employee Pays 20%: Commission Pays 80%)
  • Two (2) times base salary; maximum benefit is $200,000 for each
 
Supplemental and Spouse/Dependent Life Insurance (Employee Pays 100%)
  • Supplemental – 1,2,3,4,or 5 times base salary; maximum benefit is $750,000
  • Spouse/Dependent Combination -  $10,000/$5,000, $20,000/$10,000, or $30,000/$15,000
 
Sick Leave Bank (Eligible After One Year Probationary Period)
  • Employee contributes leave hours each year
  • Eligible for up to 66 work-days or 396 hours in 12-month period
 Leave Programs
  • Annual: 15 days per year
  • Personal: 3 days per year (12 month waiting period)
  • Sick: 15 days per year
