GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Drives heavy duty trucks in the hauling and distribution of materials.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operates trucks in the hauling and distribution of materials, to include hydraulic dump trucks, flat-beds, loaders, rollers, vacuum trucks and four wheel drive pick ups.

Inspects trucks, tools and equipment.

Uses electrical equipment and hand and gas-powered tools, such as chainsaws, rakes, shovels and hammers.

Ensures the maintenance of trucks, tools and equipment.

Assists with traffic control.

Performs physical labor in the maintenance, restoration or construction of roadways and drainage systems.

Cuts trees, limbs and shrubbery on right-of-ways.

Clears ditches, culverts, drains, gutters and beaver dams.

Must be able to meet work schedule and attendance standards.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by six (6) months experience in the operation of light to heavy duty trucks and related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Requires a valid, class "B" commercial driver license with air brakes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate heavy duty trucks, to include vehicles with hydraulic braking systems, and various hand-held manual and gas-powered tools and equipment. Must be able to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 20 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds to constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to perform manual tasks and remain on feet for extended periods of time. May be subject to a significant degree of danger or risk due to extended periods of exposure to outside atmospheric conditions (i.e., rain, extreme heat or cold, high humidity), traffic conditions, working near heavy machinery and the use of

chemicals/toxic agents in performing essential functions. May be subject to irate citizens, confined spaces, insects, reptiles, spiders and vegetation.

Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of work sites, proportions of materials hauled or distributed, and trucks, tools and equipment utilized.

Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information; includes receiving assignments and/or directions. Requires the ability to tactfully and effectively interact with the public and with co-workers.

Language Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in Standard English, and to convey information to others.

Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving concrete variables in situations where limited standardized exists; make independent judgments in the absence of supervisor; acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public and supervisors.

Numerical Aptitude: Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide; determine weight; may require the ability to calculate decimals and percentages.

Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes accurately in operating vehicles and hand held equipment.

Manual Dexterity: Must have excellent levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.

Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress. Avoids violent behavior and any other type of behavior that could threaten the safety of other employees or the public.

Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to hear and understand communications through telephone and radio.

Health Insurance is provided at a low cost to employees; family coverage is also available at a reasonable rate.

Life Insurance - The BCC provides $25,000 of basic life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for each employee. Employees may purchase optional group term life insurance in $25,000 increments up to a maximum of $500,000.

Long Term Disability – BCC provides a long-term disability for all full-time employees. Has a six-month waiting period from date of incident, and then receives 50% of salary up to five years. Employee may buy up an additional 10%.

Dental Insurance is provided at no cost to employee; family coverage is available for a reasonable rate.

Section 125 Plan (Flexible Spending Plan) - Allows employees to pre-tax certain insurance costs; unreimbursed medical; and dependent care expenses.

Florida Retirement System (FRS) – The County pays a percent of the employees’ salary into the FRS.

Holidays /Annual and Sick Leave Accruals - The County offers 10 paid holidays and annual and sick leave accrual.

Bereavement Leave - In the event of death in an employee’s immediate family (as defined in the Human Resources policy), he/she may be granted bereavement leave with pay for up to a maximum of twenty-four hours (24) hours.

Deferred Compensation Savings is offered to all full-time employees through payroll deduction.

Full-time employees offered free membership to Central Credit Union of Florida and Eglin Federal Credit Union. Participate through payroll deduction.

Full-time employees may purchase U.S. Bonds through payroll deductions.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - Full-time employees may use the EAP after completion of 6 month Probationary period. Three counseling sessions will be provided by the EAP provider at no cost to employee/spouse or dependent.

Educational Reimbursement Program - Reimbursement of tuition and books for all full-time employees after one year of employment. (Department Head approval required).
