Description/Duties & Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, Coordinator, and Program Specialist, this position will work directly with Summer BLAST and other summer programs at the Canyon Country Community Center. This position will work up to 20 hours per week including nights and weekends.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

• Organize, plan, and work directly with the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator, Program Specialist, Recreation Leader III and II.

• Assisting in the organization, set-up, and clean-up of the facility.

• Organize, prioritize, and follow up on work assignments.

• Greet customers and answer inquiries regarding programs.

• Maintain various forms, logs and reports.

• Work with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs.

• Attend meetings and training sessions.

• Report incidents and accidents.

• Follow and enforce City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others.

• Perform first aid and respond to emergencies.

• Ensure safety of site and be aware of emergency procedure.s

• Work with other program areas, as requested.

• Other activities, as directed by Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Coordinator, Program Specialist and Recreation Leaders II or III.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain cleanliness of facility and complete daily checklist.

• Supervise and lead children assigned.

• Maintain awareness of children's needs.

• Maintain staff/child ratio.

• Knowledge of assigned program area.

• Assist in planning daily activities

• Act as a role model for children.

• Facilitating special events.

• Preparing, coordinating and facilitating arts and crafts, educational enrichment and exercise time.

Education and Experience

- High School Diploma (GED or equivalent)

- Completion of some of college units a plus

- Six months to one year volunteer or paid work experience with youth programming highly desirable.

Knowledge and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Certificates and Licenses: Possession of, or ability to obtain with 1 week of hire, Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing.

Professional Skills: Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, for self and others; creative problem solver, quick learner, and team player.

Physical Ability: Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends; Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment, is required occasionally.
