Description


The Transit Maintenance Division seeks enthusiastic individuals to apply to the Summer Fueler Washer (Laborer III) position.
 
The Fueler Washer performs a variety of maintenance tasks during the summer festival season. This position works under the supervision of the Transit Supervisor or Summer Festival Transit Supervisors.

Employees in this position must be available to work as scheduled on weekdays and weekends during the period of mid-June through early September, approximately 30-40 hours per week (six to eight hour shifts). Shifts are scheduled during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Monday through Sunday. Work hours for those under the age of 18 will be scheduled in accordance with California Department of Labor regulations.

  • Official Start of Summer Season: June 25
  • Season Officially Concludes: September 2

Candidates selected for hire who are under the age of 18 must have a work permit (see link below). A work permit is not necessary to interview for the position.
 
All prospective Laborer candidates must successfully pass a police background check and a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice.

The appointing authority will further review the job related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.

Examples of Duties

Fuels and washes buses and trolleys; performs simple mechanical maintenance, shop organization and clean-up; performs other duties as assigned.

Employees in this position must be available to work as scheduled on weekdays and weekends during the period of mid-May through early September, approximately 30-40 hours per week (six to eight hour shifts). Shifts are scheduled during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday through Sunday.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year of general maintenance, construction or repair work. Experience in driving larger vehicles is desirable as is basic knowledge of hand tools.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age at time of hire.
  • Valid work permit (if under 18 years of age)
  • A valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Supplemental Information

Knowledge of: common hand tools and equipment used in mechanical and maintenance work and related work hazards; safe practices and procedures; how to operate larger equipment

Ability to: perform manual labor using hand tools or equipment that may vary from small to large; clean and fuel various types of assigned equipment; drive trucks and small vehicles; load and unload trucks; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; learn work methods, procedures, terminology and the operation and use of tools that are specific to work assigned; safely lift, move and/or carry moderately heavy objects of up to 50 pounds in weight; establish effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties.
