$13.00 Hourly

The Fresno County Clerk - Elections Office has temporary part-time job opportunities for the position of Elections Outreach Coordinator. Elections Outreach Coordinators plan, organize, and coordinate a specific election activity during an election period; and perform related work as required.

The County Clerk's office temporarily employs Elections Outreach Coordinators specifically during election periods to assist with the increased work load that occurs during an election. Incumbents serve as a liaison between the Precinct Board and the Elections Office and as a field representative on election day, assists with training precinct officers, and proofs election material. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license and provide their own transportation.

Note: This classification is an extra help (temporary work) classification, is paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, is not entitled to benefits, does not obtain permanent status and serves at the will of the department head.

Positions in this classification are in MEDICAL GROUP I - Light Physical Activity. This group includes positions which require only light physical effort and may include lifting of small, light objects and some bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching. Considerable walking or standing may be involved.

These positions work February through June 2018 with options to be recalled to work August through November 2018.

  • Plans, organizes and coordinates a specific activity of an election.
  • Troubleshoots problems with voting equipment.
  • Assists public with basic questions related to voting and registration.
  • May train, or assist with the training, of Precinct Officers.
  • May assign, review, and coordinate the work of extra-help employees and volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of election activities;
  • Practices, policies, and procedures necessary to train, assign, review, and coordinate the work of extra-help employees and volunteers;
  • Record keeping practices;
  • Alphabetical and numerical filing methods;
  • Standard and modern office equipment including computers and the equipment/applications used in voter registration and election activities;
  • Principles and practices of effective customer service.
Skills/Abilities to:
  • Assign, coordinate, and review the work of extra-help employees and volunteers. Train others in Election work procedures and methods;
  • Apply the policies and practices of the Elections Division;
  • Operate modern office equipment including computers and the equipment/applications used in voter registration and election activities;
  • Appropriately respond to requests and inquiries from the general public;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Work with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures;
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on voting equipment;
  • Work overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Paid work experience equivalent to that gained as an Election Worker or Precinct Officer for at least three (3) elections. (You must clearly identify in the work experience section of your application, your election work experience, including, if the election experience was volunteer or paid. Failure to do so will result in your application not being accepted).
 
License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent. (You must include on your application, your license number and expiration date. Failure to do so will result in your application not being accepted).

SELECTION PROCESS:

Successful candidates will be placed on an employment list, effective for a minimum of 3 months (may be extended up to an additional 12 months), and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
