Description/Duties & Responsibilities

The Recreation and Community Services Division is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to assist in the summer program at the Newhall Community Center (NCC.) Under the supervision of the Community Center Coordinator and Supervisor, this position will work directly with children ages 5-12. Youth will participate in games, sports, arts and crafts, fieldtrips and more.

June 18 – August 11, 2018

Requirements to apply:

• Available to work a varied shift Monday – Friday between 8am – 7p.m.

• Available to work up to 40 hours a week

• Available on Saturday, June 2 for staff mandatory orientation from 9-1p.m.

• Available on Tuesday, June 5 for CPR/First Aid Certification from 12:00 - 5p.m. You are responsible to pay $28 for the certification.

• Available the week of June 11-15 for additional summer program.

The Newhall Community Center, located at 22421 Market Street in Newhall. The NCC provides youth and adults in Santa Clarita with a variety of recreational and educational opportunities in a safe and fun environment. Education and Experience

• High School diploma, GED or equivalent by June 2018

• CPR & First Aid Certified preferred

• Completion of College Courses highly desirable

• One year of paid experience working with children 5 to 12 years old in a structured environment preferred

Knowledge and Abilities

• Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus

• Ability to work effectively, compassionately and creatively with youth ages 5 through 18

• Responsible and assertive leadership skills a must

• Ability to juggle numerous responsibilities and tasks

• Positive, team-oriented attitude

• Flexibility to work a variety of hours and days

In addition, PTS employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
