General Description

The Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department is seeking applications for Softball Official.  The Softball Official is responsible for umpiring softball games in the Green Bay Park Department leagues.  The official's main responsibilities are to call balls, strikes, or violations, ensure safety of players on the field, and monitor game activity.  The summer season runs from May through August.  The fall season runs from August through October.  The pay range is $17.71 to $19.55 per game.

Examples of Duties

  • Report to assigned field prior to first game.
  • Check in with Site Supervisor upon arrival.
  • Start game on time.
  • Work with Site Supervisor to run an effective and efficient game.
  • Call all rule violations in accordance with softball rules.
  • Be able to interpret all rules and violations.
  • Keep control of game at all times.
  • Eject any players, fans, or teams due to excessive unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • Keep constant and effective communication with Site Supervisor during game.
  • At conclusion of game, check out with Site Supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Knowledge of the game of softball.
  • Experience in umpiring softball games.
  • Experience in dealing with people.
     

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties characterized as medium work, which is lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Be able to sit and drive less than one hour at a time, walk for 1-3 hours at a time, and stand for 4-5 hours at a time.
  • Be able to repetitively grasp.
  • Be able to occasionally twist and reach.
  • Be able to frequently bend, squat, talk, hear, and see.
  • Be able to be exposed to cold, heat, sun, and rain 50% of the time.
