Description

St. Louis County Courts are located in North, South, Central, and West Divisions.  The position may be assigned to any one of these four locations.  Employment requires evening hours.  Adequate transportation to travel to the sites is necessary.

The starting salary for this position will be $12.88 hourly.  Applicants hired full time on or after January 17,2018 will be participating in the revised retirement plan.  New employees will be required to contribute 4% of their salary to this plan.

Examples of Duties

  • Responds to inquiries from the general public and court officials concerning County Municipal Court and Violation Bureau (VB) matters.
  • Performs technical court clerical work in the filing, reviewing, and processing of legal documents in County Municipal Court cases.
  • Prepares and schedules cases for hearings in court with accuracy.
  • Prepares and maintains the court cases, reviews legal documents for completeness, adequacy and accuracy, determines processing required, and takes necessary actions in accordance with County Municipal Court rules and State statutes.
  • Enters data from a variety of sources in order to establish and maintain case information in the automated system.
  • Prepares a variety of legal court forms not in the automated system and locator files.
  • Prepares daily tabulations and reports of cash receipts, distributes to the proper funds following established routines, makes daily entries in the cash receipts ledger, prepares checks for deposit, balances cash, and prepares the required tabulations and deposits.
  • Receives payments in person and by mail for County fines, costs, and other receipts; prepares and issues bills/receipts for funds received.
  • Applies state laws/local court rules to accurately implement court procedures and processes.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years' experience with customer service preferably including experience working in a court environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENTA selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.  The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade.  A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a permanent part time, full time, term or on-call position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory.  The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
