The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) provides a broad range of programs, services, facilities and park amenities within the City and County of Denver. The City's park system encompasses approximately 250 urban parks, parkways and natural areas, totaling nearly 6,000 acres. The department also boasts more than 14,000 acres of pristine mountain parks, eight golf courses, 24 lakes, 73,888 trees, more than 80 miles of trails, nine off-leash dog parks and over 300 athletic fields. The recreation system includes 27 recreation centers, 16 outdoor pools and 13 indoor pools serving over one million visitors annually.

About Our Job

Park Seasonal Laborer positions perform a wide variety of maintenance duties and are an integral part of providing enjoyable park experiences for the citizens and visitors of Denver!  This position supports various construction, maintenance, repair, and operational functions for Denver Parks & Recreation's Amenities division.  The Amenities division is responsible for Park assets such as, but not limited to:  trails and related pathways, play grounds, park structures and related park amenities.
 
Starting pay = $12/hr
 
These positions will report to 4495 Jason Street, Denver, CO but will work at various locations throughout the city
 
Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs routine landscaping.
  • Loads and unloads equipment and supplies, cleans and cares for basic tools and equipment.
  • Assists in the repair of water line breaks, cuts and lays sod, cleans sprinkler lines, valves and heads.
  • Assists trades workers with painting and other assigned duties
  • Assists fence crews in the basic maintenance of ball fields, playgrounds, and construction of sprinkling systems.
  • Assists with horticultural tasks in flower beds and other plantings.
  • By position, may assist tree trimmers in the maintenance of trimming, removing, and spraying trees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.

This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. This position will work an average of 39 hours per week.

About You

We are looking for hard-working and reliable individuals, who are highly conscious of safety considerations.  Incumbents should enjoy working outside, working on a wide range of equipment and tools and must be able to work holidays and weekends, as needed.  Additionally, our ideal candidate will have: 
  • Various maintenance, motorized equipment, and hand powered tool experience
  • Experience working with various water systems (irrigation, plumbing, etc.) and equipment or an interest in gaining this experience
