Definition

This is an entry-level, professional staff, full-time position in the City's Public Works Department. An individual in this position performs maintenance duties for the City streets and drainage systems.

Examples of Work

• Complete street maintenance by finishing concrete pavement repairs; patch potholes, lay asphalt, repair wheelchair ramps; flag traffic; set up work zones, saw cutting; mud jacking; build and repair inlet tops and aprons; set forms; and repair curbs;

• Complete drainage duties by setting pipe; spread stabilized sand; clean debris in pipes; de-clog gutters; and haul loads;

• Operate, clean and maintain various heavy equipment, such as bulldozer, backhoe, and front-end loader, and various light equipment, such as jackhammer, chain saw, and crack sealing machines;

• Assist with emergency response for Police and Fire in emergencies such as collisions; sanding bridges and streets; assist in natural disasters; set up barricades during floods; cut and remove fallen trees from roadways;

• Perform other related duties as assigned;

• Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and one year of professional experience are required.

Supplemental Information

The Department of Human Resources & Organizational Development may consider an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

EDUCATIONAL REIMBURSEMENT
